Major Upp, an army officer,
recently spoke for Room 8. He
showed us some slides of
Egypt, Saudi Arabia and
Palestine. We saw some slides
of some things in King Tut's
pyramid. King Tut died in
1326 B.C. In his pyramid they
found jewels and some per
fume bottles made of alabas
ter. The perfume in these bot
tles was still good. King Tut
had seven mummy cases. One
mummy case was made out of
gold and turquoise. There
were 16 inch gold statues of
King Tut and a throne made
of sheets of gold on wood
Many of the pyramids were
robbed but King Tut's was
not.
Major Upp also showed us
some slides of Palestine where
it is believed Christ was born.
They have built a big church
over the manger. They have
also built a marble manger.
He also showed us the place
where John the Baptist was
imprisoned. He said that the
door was padlocked and no
body could enter the room.
Major Upp also showed us
some slides of the Garden of
Gethsemane and the Mount of
Olives. He showed us some
slides of the fallen walls of
Jericho.
The Social Studies class of
Mrs. Bertha Stephens' fourth
grade room has started a unit
on the hot dry lands of the
Sahara desert.
On Jan. 10 Miss Metz show
ed us some articles from
Africa. These things were
loaned to us by Mrs. Nolta
who used to live in Africa. We
embroider, weave, sew, quilt
toys, gifts, bazaar items.
