Ohio Staters
To Face Purdue
By MARTIN LADER
United Press International
A champion's work is sel
dom done and Ohio State
once again will have to prove
its claim as the nation's No. 1
college basketball team when
it goes against an unbelieving
Purdue five this week.
Ohio State has won 18
straight games, including a
convincing 75-66 triumph over
Minnesota last Saturday, and
boasts a destructive starting
team which numbers Jerry
Lucas, everybody's All-America.
The Buckeyes are also
defending Big 10 champions.
Purdue, relegated to anoth
er season of obscurity in pre
season gossip following an 11-
12 showing last year, climax
ed a startling comeback to
basketball eminence by whip
ping fourth-ranked Iowa, 47
41, Saturday. Led all the way
by Olympian center Terry
Dischinger, the Boilermakers
have won eight of their last
nine starts after dropping
their first two games of the
season.
The game between the Big
10 co-leaders is set for next
Saturday at Columbus, al
though Purdue gets a good
chance to lossen its muscles
before then when it engages
Northwestern (5-7) tonight.
