Record Japanese
Budget Approved
Tokyo-IUPD-Premier Hayato
Ikeda's cabinet approved a
record $5.42 billion budget for
1861 today.
Critics labeled it aj infla
tionary, but Ikeda said the
budget was a key step in his
plan to double Japan's na
tional income in 10 years.
The executive committee and
policy boara of the governing
Liberal Democratic Party .ap
proved the money measure.
The draft bill goes next to
Parliament, where it is ex
pected to pass without diffi
culty. Main items in the budget,
which takes effect April 1,
were public investment, social
security and tax measures de
signed to beef up Japan's al
ready burgeoning economy.
About $480 million goes for
defense.

Help Radio Free Europe.
What does it do?
Every day, to 79 million captive people behind the
Iron Curtnin, it broadcasts the plain truth . . .
religious services . . . folk songs they love . . .
the real news of the outside world.
It helps keep these 79 million people from turning
lo Communism. The Poles, Occhoslovakians,
Bulgarians, Rumanians and Hungarians.
It keeps alive their friendship for America.
Broadcasting from 28 transmitters . . . manned by
escapees from Communism ... it reaches over 90
of these people, despite Communist jamming.
Thousands of smuggled letters echo (he same plea:
"Cod Blest You! Please keep Radio Free Europe
on the air!"
These 79 million people are vital to the cause
of freedom.
They arc the buffers between Russia and the
Free World.
They help tie up JO Russian divisions, stationed
to prevent uprising'..
They pose a major obstacle to the Russians
starling any war.
And they depend on Radio Free Europe. It is their
strongest link with the Fret World. '
But Radio Free Europe needs money to continue
this important job . . . to grow ... to become
ever more effective.
It depends on individual American support for
its very existence.
How about it? Will you help fight Communim
Secure the future of your children?
...Give a dollar?... Give five dollars?. ..or more?
Surely, your heart tells you to give something
so that our children and all children shall if
in freedom throughout the world.
