of four parly members who will attend the
inauguration of John F. Kennedy as Presi
dent of the United States. Shown here dur

Couple Arrives
From Alaska
Mr. and Mrs. Joe La Fon,
Homer, Alaska, are guests in
the home of Mrs La Fnn's
sister and family Mr. and Mrs.
Dell Townsend, West Vilas
road, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Ernst, Table Rock road.
The La Fons are owners
of te LaFon Log-Tel in Homer,
Alaska. They plan to remain
in the valley until about the
first of March.
Four Jackson county Demo
crats will attend the inaugura
tion of President-Elcct John
F. Kennedy in Washington
next Friday, January 20. All
plan to attend every function
in the program of events
scheduled for guests attending
inauguration ceremonies.
Representing Jackson coun
ty will be Democratic County
cnairman Harper Edwards:
Henry Padgham, who served
as Jackson county chairman
lor citizens for Kennedy
Johnson during the campaign:
Frank Christian, former Dem
ocratic county chairman, and
Mrs. Christian. Mr. Edwards
and Mr. Padgham left Med
ford early this morning by car
for Portland. In the afternoon
they will board the City of
Portland for Chicago and then
take the Pennsylvania Rail
road into Washington, D. C.
The Christians left Thurs
day for Portland, and from
there took the Great Northern
to Chicago. They will join
their son, Wilfrid, who has
seen service oji the Triton, and
go to Washington together for
tlie inauguration ceremonies.
Following four days in Wash
ington, they will spend two
days in New York and attend
Broadway shows before re
turning to Medford.
Among functions lo be at
tended by the four local resi
dents will be the official in
auguration ceremonies, the in
augural ball, honoring the
new President and First Lady;
a reception honoring Vice
President-Elect and Mrs. Lyn
don B. Johnson; an inaugural
concert to be held at Constitu
tion hall; a Democratic gala to
be held at the National Guard
armory, sponsored by Frank
Sinatra and Peter Lawford
with a large cast of Hollywood
stars performing and the in
augural parade. Mrs. Christian
will also attend the reception
for distinguished ladies.
In addition to these events,
Mr. Edwards and Mr. Padg
ham plan to confer with heads
of the Democratic National
committee and leaders in the
Kennedy-Johnson administra
tion. They also plan lo seek
possible commitments for a
speaker for the next Roosevelt
Memorial dinner, an annual
event held here in April.
Mr. Padgham will leave
Washington for New York to
visit friends and relatives and
will join Mr. Edwards in Oma
ha where the latter will spend
the Sunday following the in
auguration with his son and
daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Gary Edwards and their one
and a half year old daughter,
Holly, whom he has never
seen.
The four will return to Med
ford in time for the local Dem
ocratic inaugural ball to be
held at the Mark Antony hotel
ballroom in Ashland the eve
ning of Saturday, January 28.
Gold Hill Council
Has Sewing Project;
Pastor at Meeting

Hill Assembly of God church
will start cutting blocks for
quilts during a meeting of
the group Tuesday, January
17, at 7 p.m. at the church.
The finished quilts, which
will be sewn by members of
the group, will be sent to the
mission field.
The Missionetles will also j
meet the same evening in an-'
other room at the church. j
The Rev. and Mrs. Charles
Pearson recently attended the
Ministers Institute held at the
Assembly of God church in
Medford.
The Rev. R. M. Riggs, re
tired superintendent of the
Assembly of God Grand coun
cil, Springfield, Mo., was
guest speaker. H i s subjects
were based on the topic of
"Spiritual Living."

Colonel Sargent camp and
auxiliary, United Spanish War
Veterans, will meet Sunday,
January 15, at 1:30 p.m. at the
Redman hall. A potluck din
ner at noon will be followed
by a business meeting and in
stallation of officers.
