ville, Calif. The couple was
married in the Church of the
Wnvfarer.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hammers,
Corvallis, and the bridegroom
is the son of Mrs. Henry My
ers, Alameda.
The bride wore a white lace
street-length dress and a veil
held by a pearl headpiece. Her
flowers were white orchids.
Mrs. Roy Castiglionl, Santa
Cruz, was matron of honor.
She wore a lavender dress
with white carnation nosegay.
Sam Vestal was best man
and ushers were Glenn Dick
ey and Howard Sheerin.
Following the ceremony the
bride's parents held a recep
tion in the Oak room of the
Mark Thomas inn in Monte
rey, Mrs. J. R. Steudeman, the
bride's sister, cut the wedding
cake.
The couple Is residing in
Santa Cruz. The bride is a
1055 graduate of Phoenix
High school and a 1060 grad
uate of the Oregon State col
lege school of pharmacy. She
nerved her internship in Santa
Cruz and began work in Wat
sonville as a pharmacist in
Scoteinber.
Mr. Burkhardt is a reporter
for the Watsonville Register
Pajaronian and the two young
people met when he was sent
to interview the new pharma
cist for a feature article. He
was graduated from the Uni
versity of California and serv
ed six years In the army as a
member of the counter-intelligence
corps during World War
II and the Korean war, The
bridegroom also spent four
years as radio news editor.

is a graduate of Crater High
school and Is employed by
Central Point School district.

Student Touring

Theodore Lawson, Medford
student enrolled at the Univer
sity of Kansas, Lawrence, is
one of a group of drama stu
dents touring Kansas cities
this month. The students will
oresent a play In various Kan
sas schools in celebration of
the state's centennial.
Young Lawson, a sopho
more, is a. drama major and
has appeared in several uni
versity productions. His most
recent role is one In the "Cau
casian Chalk Circle" which is
to be presented March 8-11
The play is described as a
"paradoxical epic drama"
with 92 characters.
The student was in Medford
to spend the holidays with his
parents, Dr. and Mrs. Earl
Lawson, 301 Windsor avenue.
Also a musician, the young
man sang with a group which
entertained audiences during
the 1960 Oregon Shakespear
ean festival, Ashland.
Chosen
McLeod-Miss Jackie Hume,
senior at Eagle Point High
school, has been chosen Home
maker of Tomorrow for her
school in the Betty Crocker
annual contest. Miss Hume is
now eligible to compete for
the stale title.

mony held December 31 at
First Presbyterian church,
Jacksonville.
The Rev. King K. Jones
Jr. officiated at the three
o'clock afternoon rites attend
ed by 150 relatives and
friends. Baskets of white
chrysanthemums and red
poinsettias decorated the
church. Mrs. Alta Robinson,
Medford, was organist and ac
companied Mr. Edens, father
of the bride, soloist.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a floor
length gown of white bro
cade fashioned with fitted bo
dice, scoop neckline which
formed a shallow vee in front
and three-quarter length
sleeves. Her fingertip length
veil was held by a cap of
rcembroidered lace edged
with pearls and she carried
a white orchid on a white Bible.

degree staff captain, Mrs.
Harry Bryant, asks officers
and members of the staff be at
the hall for practice at 6:30
p.m.
Initiation for both men and
women is planned.
Mrs. Amy Snyder was elect
ed guard at the last meeting
of the temple.
Mrs. Scott Hall, installing
officer, has announced that in
stallation of officers will be
held at the hall Friday, Janu
ary 20, at 8 p.m.

were Mr. Brown and Norman
Bailey. The men are all from
Portland and are Theta Chi
fraternity brothers of the
bridegroom.

The couple is now living
in Nashville, Tenn., where
Mr. Adams Is doing graduate
work in psychology at Van
derbilt university. The bride
is a graduate of Jacksonville
high school and Lewis and
Clark college, Portland. Mr.
Adams attended Jefferson
High school, Portland and
Lewis and Clark college.

Arm Chair travelers at the
Senior Activity center ex
pressed enthusiasm for the
colored slides of the Holy
Land shown by William
Fickell last Monday. He has
been scheduled to return for
their meeting Monday, Janu
ary 18. Monday's pictures will
be of the Grand Canyon and
other scenic places in Arizona,
New Mexico and California.
Last week Mr. Plckell show
ed scenes of the Red Sea,
Egypt, up the Nile river and
in Luxor. The meeting begins
at 1 p.m. and anyone inter
csted is Invited.
Dr. Frank Roberts, who
schedules the showings, states
that newcomers in the valley,
especially those who plan to
enter the Rogue Valley Man
or, are Invited to attend.. The
Arm Chair group also invites
anyone with slides or films to

The Spanish class which
meets each Monday at 7:30
p.m. at the center is now be
ing taught by Mrs. Blanche
Rinabarger in the absence of
the regular teacher Mrs. Vic

The oil painting class which
meets Tuesday afternoons at
one o'clock under the direc
tion of Mrs. Victoria Staley,
decided last week to hold an
exhibit at the center the latter
part of February. New mem
bers are asked to come into
the class next week In order
to take part In this exhibit.
Mrs. Helen Dltmanson is host
ess for the group, taking the
place of Mrs. Jo (Alva) Reed,
who assisted as a volunteer
last fall.
The Center orchestra is
practicing selections from the
new classical music collection
which the group purchased
with money earned in a rum
mage sale. The sale was ar
ranged by friends of the
orchestra, headed by Mrs. Ed
ward Root, wife of the con
ductor. All the orchestra took
part in it. Mr. Root stated
that right now is the time
for interested musicians to
join the orchestra, when a
new repertoire is being
learned.

Meeting
Announced
The annual meeting of
Rogue Valley Memorial Hos
pital auxiliary will be held
Friday, January 20, at 1:30
p.m. in the board and staff
room of the hospital, accord
ing to Mrs. V. Ward Ham
mond, president. Anyone in
terested is invited to attend,
she adds.
On the agenda is election of
officers for1961, and presen
tation of service pins to wom
en who have completed .100
hours, or 1,000 hours of vol
unteer service to the hospital.
A "fun quiz" concerning the
auxiliary is also 'being pre
pared for members.
Mrs. Robert J. Morris,
chairman of staff services, is
in charge of the tea which
will follow the meeting.

Approximately 10,000 edu
cators and their guests from
throughout the state are ex
pected to attend the 58th an
nual Oregon Education associ
ation convention in Portland
March 16 to 18.

planning session at OEA
headquarters last week were

ine Smith, of the Medford
High school factulty. They re
ported that speakers at the
state session will include Max
Lerner, widely known jour
nalist and writer on political
and social subjects; Dr. Ethel
J. Alpenfels, professor of an
thropology at New York Uni
cersity school of education;
and Dr. G. Z. F. Bereday, pro
fessor of comparative educa
tion at Columbia university.

at Bend, will be speaker at
the OEA banquet March 16.
A highlight of the conven
tion will be announcement of
the 1960 "education citizen of
the year." Delegates will par

shops conducted by OEA's 33
subject departments which
concentrate on special fields
such as art education, geo
graphy, business education,
personnel and guidance, and
associations for higher educa
tion, principals, county school
superintendents, supervisors,
classroom teachers, and oth
ers.
Mrs. Smith is chairman of
the planning committee.

sin, has made her home in
southern California for the
past six years. The bride
groom has lived in Grants
Pass for 24 years and is an

hardware, Grants Pass.
