We've been feeling frightfully superior and virtuous.
This female can report that she kept a New Year resolution
an entire year. We slipped two or three times, but consider
ing everything, we did real well.
A year ago Christmas we had our feelings hurt when
the Medford police department sent us a notice saying we
owed them $3.50 for ovcrparklng fines. Although we were!
absolutely sure that we didn t owe them any such a thing,
we wrote them a check for tho sum, accompanied it with
a firm letter and vowed that we'd quit parking our car
in front of the office.
Now, a whole year later, we can report that we had
only three over-parking tickets during the entire year, as
compared to an average of about one a' week for previous
years. Unless our arithmetic is as bad as we sometimes
think It is, the city lost about $100 In over-parking' fines
plus heaven knows how much in "meter feeding" money.
Of course, we had a little ' help on the deal. For one
thing, Pappy has done a lot of chnuffcurlng since the first
week in November when Potpourri broke a bone in her
right foot and wasn't doing so good ns far as walking or
driving went. Since Pappy was doing the driving, he didn t
park the Doll (otherwise known as thr motorized pup tent)
by a meter. Which reminds us of something. Several weeks
ago when wo bragged to Pappy that the traffic department
had only stuck us with three over-parking tleaete In several .
months he said "That a nothing, I've never had a ticket
for over-parking."
Perhaps we'd bettor eaptaln tint the term "motorized
pup tfiit" isn't original with Pottmurti. The two of us read
it In a magazine for sports cer owners it was the cev
tempuoue term of the owner of a large ana etpensive Amer
ican mate car who said he wee Met and tired of hearing
citizens of the. United State I) nig about their foreign sporls
cere. He hinted that y retfbloode. American wouU buy
