most cily streets in Cleveland, O., and drivers such as this

Hits Pole - A sedan driven
by Joan Elizabeth Poole, 21,
of Vancouver, B. C, struck a
traffic signal pole at the junc
tion of Highway 99 and Wil
lows Springs rd. about 6:30
p.m. Wednesday, according to
state police. Witnesses said
the blinking yellow light has
been turned so it was not
visible from the north. The
driver was slightly injured,
police said.
Car Hits Sign - City police
this morning cited David
Francis Gilbert, 23, Seattle,
Wash., for violation of the
basic rule after a vehicle
operated by Gilbert failed to
negotiate a turn from High
way 99 onto Highway 62 and
hit a sign post. The accident
occurred about 1 a.m. Police
said monor damage was done
to the Gilbert vehicle.
Driver Cited - Cily police
cited Walter Wilfred Johnson,
64, of 1702 West Main st for
failure to yield the right of
way after the Johnson vehicle
was involved in a collision
with a car operated by Har
low Garfield Holt, 44, of 3364
Crater Lake ave. The accident
occurred about 1:30 p.m. at
the intersection of Third and
Fir sis.
164 Permits Issued
In Prospect Area
A total of 164 cutting per
mits, representing 355 Christ
mas trees, were issued at the
Prospect ranger station in
Rogue River National forest
during the past three week
ends, the ranger station re
ported today.
The trees were offered with
out cost as a service to resi
dents of the area who com
bined a family outing with
selection of a Christmas tree,
rangers said.
The free tree offering is
part of an extensive thinning
program in the Prospect dis
trict. The thinning is designed
to increase the growth of trees
left standing by reducing the
competition from slower
growing trees, ranger explain
ed. ' -
District personnel are plan
ning the thinning program in
the Prospect' flat area so that
Christmas trees will be avail
able on the same basis for I
several years in the future

OBITUARIES
FREDRICK KRUGGEL
Funeral services for Fred
rick Ernest Kruggel, 61, of
428 Berrydale ave., Medford,
who died Tuesday, will be
held Friday at 1 p.m. at the
Chapel in the Trees Mortuary,
in Siskiyou Memorial park.
The Rev. 'George Roscberry
of the First Methodist church
of Medford will officiate. Pri
vate interment will follow in
Siskiyou Memorial park.
Mr. Kruggel was born June
26, 1899, in Mason City, Iowa.
In 1919, he moved to Ashland,
where he and his late brother,
Reinhard, opened the Kruggel
Brothers' Tire Shop which
they operated for several
years. On May 7, 1924, in Ash
land, he was married to Alta
E. Powell, who survives.
In July, 1927, the family
moved to Medford where he
was employed by Lewis Super
Service for nine years. Since
that time he has owned and
operated several different
service stations in the Med
ford area, with the exception
of 1951 to 1955 he was whole
sale distributor for Pfaff Sew
ing Machine company in Port
land, i'
At the time of his death he
and his son, Robert, were op
erating Kruggel's Texaco at
Fourth st. and Central ave.,
Medford.
t He was a member of the
First Methodist church of
Medford, and had been active
in several service clubs in the
Ashland and Medford area. He
was a Veteran of World War I.
Survivors, besides his wife,
include two sons, Fred E.
Kruggel, Jr., and Robert L.
Kruggel, both of Medford; one
daughter, Mrs. Paulene J.
Goguey, Crescent City, Calif.;
one brother, William J. Krug
gel. Clearlake, Iowa; one
sister, Mrs. Tillie Long, Blue
Earth, Minn.; five grandsons;
two granddaughters; and sev
eral nieces and nephews.
Tile family has requested
that donations be made to the
Local Chapter of the Ameri
can Cancer Society.
Honorary pallbearers will
include Theodore J. Guetzlaff,
H.'. L. Ekerson, V. E. Rose,
Lowell W. Fleser, Virgil R.
Schwab, and Roy B. Baker.
Siskiyou Funeral Service,
directors of Chapel in the
Trees Mortuary, is in charge
of arrangements.

Dr. LeRoy was born Sept.
12, 1895, in Arnott, Wis., and
is survived by two sisters,
Mrs. J. W. Parsley of Eugene,
Mrs. Florence Knause of
Washington, and one cousin.

For Holidays
Ken Durkee. 17, a former
Medford High school football
player who was seriously in
jured in a car accident here
last spring and who has been
in a Portland hospital since,
will return to Medford this
afternoon to spend the Christ
mas holidays with his family.
Durkee will be relumed to
Medford by Mercy Flights and
was expected to arrive at the
Medford airport about 2:30
p.m., weather permitting. It
will be flight number 1,237
for Mercy Flights.
A Mercy Flights nlime left
Medford this morning for
Portland carrying a patient
from the White City Veterans
domiciliary to a Portland hos
pital. The same plane will re
turn Durkee.
Mercy Flights seeded the
municipal airport this morn
ing allowing planes to take
off, Several landings, the first
since Tuesday, were also ex
ecuted this morning while the
field remained clear.
PRISON SENTENCE
Portland - I1IPH - Robert J.
Tesdahl, 31-year-old ex -con
vict, Wednesday received a
maximum 20 years federal
prison sentence for the at
tempted robbery July 12 of
the East Portland branch of
the Security Bank of Oregon.
