maintained by the VFW auxil
iary, was opened for one day
Dec. 12, to distribute gifts to
the near relatives of the vet
erans who live at the domi
ciliary. These gifts are first receiv
ed by the VFW from all over
the state of Oregon and north
ern California, and then sent
to White City for the benefit
of the members here. Mrs.
Lclia Birch called attention to
the fact that the VFW auxil
iary, department of Oregon, is
the only organization that
maintains a gift room at the
domiciliary. She is well
known to the members for her
effectual work as a volunteer.
From 9 until 4 o'clock, the
gift room was open, and the
whole station theater utilized.
Represent Dollars
These numerous gifts rep
resent several thousands of
dollars in cost to the VFW
Parties Held at
Area Grange Hall
Members of the Griffin
Creek Grange will hold their
regular , Christmas party
Thursday, Dec. 22, in the
Grange hall. Featured will be
an exchange of gifts and spe
cial entertainment.
Grange officials reported
that several holiday parties
for Boy Scouts and Brownies
in the Griffin Creek area have
been held recently.
Tuesday, the local Boy
Scouts held their annual party
at the Grange hall, featuring
a tree decorated with orna
ments made by the Scouts.
Merit badges were also award
ed by Scoutmasters . Lyle
Perkins, Larry Yoeman and
Harry Heartle. .
One Scout presented the
Grange a fir wreath includ
ing pine cones and colored
ribbon. Santa Claus made his
appearance and presented
gifts to the 134 participants.
Thursday afternoon, local
Brownies held their holiday
get-together in the hall under
the supervision of Mrs. Jane
Hopping, a Grange member.
Checks Taken During
Burglary of Company
