ious. Usually examination of
the heart fails to show any
thing wrong with it, and so
one suspects that the cause is
a nervous storm of some kind.
I have never had any fear of
the disease because I have
known so many persons who
had had spells of it off and
on for 20 years or more.
Usually I ask the patients
to keep a record of unusual
happenings or unusual foods
eaten to see if they can dis
cover anything that tends to
trigger a spell.
There are drugs that some
times will help, but I think
most heart specialists prefer
not to use them. Sometimes
the person discovers some
position he can get, into, or
something he can do that
seems to shorten the duration
of a spell.
Seborrheal Dermatitis
Many people write to say
that because of a skin erup
tion, perhaps on their fore
head, they went to a skin
specialist and he said they had
a seborrheal dermatitis. He
gave an ointment which help
ed, but hasn't cured. Now,
they ask me what the disease
is: can others in the family
catch it; is it dangerous, and
how can it be cured?
Dermatitis means inflamma
tion of the skin, and seborr
heal comes from two Greek
roots which refer to an exces
sive secretion of sebum (fat)
in the skin. I doubt if the con
dition is catching, and it is not

Three-Car Accidents
Reported in Ashland
Ashland - Two three-car ac
cidents occurred in Ashland
Sunday and Monday.
Two people received minor
injuries in an accident at the
intersection of Siskiyou blvd
and Beach st. at 7:53 o'clock
Monday. John Winder, 18, of
848 Second St., Ashland, and
his passenger, David Arthur
Aos, Medford, were taken to
Ashland General hospital with
minor injuries. The car driven
by Winder struck the rear of
a car driven by Gary John
Wangerin, 20, Grants Pass,
police said. Wangerin was
stopped for a traffic signal.
His car was pushed into the
rear of a vehicle driven by
Patricia Ruth Barber, 28:
Mountain View, Calif., also
stopped for the signal, accord
ing to police. No tickets were
issued.
At 10:47 a.m. Sunday, a
vehicle driven by Richard El-
roy Roper, 36, of 72 Dewey
St., Ashland, collided with a
car driven by Mary Elizabeth
Miller, 119 Seventh St., Ash
land. The Miller car was then
forced into a car driven by
Fred Speece, 151 Nursery St.,
Ashland.
All six cars were exten
sively damaged, police said.

dangerous. I have had a mild
form of it on my scalp and
forehead all my life, and it
probably accounts for the loss
of most of my hair. In the
past, skin specialists usually
have given an ointment con
taining some sulfur and a lit
tle salicylic acid. Using this,
my father tried to save his
hair, and later I used it, and
we both became almost bald.
Unfortunately, even the ablest
skin specialists still do not
know how to rid people en
tirely of some of even the
commoner diseases. What
cheers me and gives me hope
is that men now are studying
the chemistry of the skin.
