a hypodermic needle, police
reported.
Rolph's wife, Virginia, 35,
pneumonia patient at Hunt
ington Memorial hospital in
Pasadena, said her physician-
husband called her to say he
was go.tng to kill himself.
He was dead before she
couid arrive home. Mrs.
Rolph said. She had been due
to be released shortly before
the incident,

band had been depressed over
illness.
