Fsve Cars Involved
In Two Accidents Here
Two separate traffic acci
dents involving five cars oc
curred within 15. minutes of
each other Tuesday, at the
Intersection of Riverside ave.
and Barnett rd. There were
no reported injuries resulting
from either of the accidents,
according to city police.
, In the first of the two mis
haps, occurring about 7:30
a.m., three cars were involved
in a rear-end collision. Police
cited the driver of one of the
vehicles, Clare Pauline Dob
bin, 42, Jacksonville, for fol
lowing too close.
Drivers of the other two
cars were Richard Karl Her
man, 36, Corvallis, and Bert
ram Leslie Stansbury, 45, of
1109 Murray st., Medford. All
three cars sustained minor
damage.
Less than 15 minutes later,
a car operated by Donald
George Gay, 17, of 1866
Springbrook rd., was forced
to stop suddenly to avoid
striking a person who was
sweeping glass and debris
from the earlier wreck out
of the street.
Gay's vehicle was then hit
from behind by tt car oper
ated by Walter Kenneth
Snook, 28, of 125 Laurel st.,
Central Point. Police said
Snook was .unable to stop in
time to avoid the collision due
to wet pavement, also caused
by the earlier wreck.
No citations were issued in
the second accident. Both cars
were said to have sustained
minor damage.
Salem Heights Water
District Votes Bonds
Salem (UPI) Voters of the
Salem Heights water district
have approved a $485,000
bond issue whereby the dis
trict will purchase water from
the city of Salem. The vote
was 475-254.
The money will finance new
pumps and trunk lines.
Voters 'in the Four Corners
fire district east of Salem ap
proved a new tax base of $59,
858 by a vote of 88-15. A new
tax base of $32,354 was ap
proved by Keizer fire district
voters at the north edge of
Salem. Vote was 114-20.

Even Kennedy's arrival at
the front door of the White
House was reported to be
planned mainly for overseas
consumption. White House
aides felt that foreigners
would expect to sec pictures
of the incoming Chief Execu
tive being greeted at the north
portico - underneath the fa
mous columns - just as other
heads of state were welcomed
by the Eisenhowers in the past
eight years.

is closer to the President's
oval office and has a large
lobby where departing callers
can be interviewed by news

however, is far from impos
ing. It's a simple double-door
with a small white canopy
overhead that barely gives

been traditionally welcomed
by William D. Simmons, a
former Secret Service agent
who mans one of two desks
in the lobby. A White House
policeman sits at the other
desk to screen out gate-crashers.
