Search Continues
For Missing Coed
Portland-fllPD - The search
for clues into the disappear
ance of a pretty 19-year-old
Washington State university
coed and the slayer of her boy
friend went into its second
week Sunday with no trace
of the girl or the slayer.
A 600-man hunt SaturcfiV
in the wooded Forest psutt
area of northwest Portiand
where the body of llarsf
Ralph Peyton, 19, was found
a week ago, failed to locate
Beverly Ann Allan, Port
Townsend, Wash., who author
ities fear was either kidnaped
or slain by the slayer or slay
ers f Peyton.
A 50-man search conducted
by the Washington county
sheriff's office Sunday also
proved fruitless.
BROTHERS REUNITED Brothers TSgt.
Philip H. McCoy, left, and Sgt. Lowell C.
Hcimbach, both U.S. Marines, compare
notes at a recent get-together at Twenty
Nine Palms, Calif. What made the meeting
unusual is that it was the first in 22 years
without either man realizing that he had a
brother. They were separated in Sacra
mento, Calif., in 1938 when their parents
separated and both went to live with dif
ferent relatives. Throughout the years,
neither was told of a brother-until 1955. It
took almost five years of searching and hap
penstance for the reunion. (UPI Telephoto)

Porter said, "but as yet I
haven't heard from him."
"I would like , also to sit
down and talk with him about
supporting the Dunes bill, and
I have asked him to drop
around when he gets to Wash
ington," he added, perhaps un
consciously giving the reason
why Durno has not yet re
plied. Durno has not support
ed the plan for a National
Seashore park in Oregon, and
may not be in the mood for
such friendly persuasion..

the office. No files were turn
ed over; no helpful hints were
forthcoming from former con
gressman Harris Ellsworth; no
potted plants; nothing.
"Humph, we never saw
him," Billings said, and Por
ter added, "That is when we
decided that if and when I
ever left this office, we would
not do it that way."
Billings has begun the
tiresome task of seeing that
all books and other personal
belongings are packed up and
sent to Porter's Washington
home. All personal and po
litical files will be sent there
also. The rest of the files, ex
cepting the constituent busi
ness files which will go to
Durno, will be shipped to the
University of Oregon and
stored there.
Common Sense
"It's just common sense to
pass these pending business
files along," Porter said.
These people ought to be
taken care of. There's noth
ing controversial about this;
it should be a continuing serv
ice of the office. A lot of xon
stituents were left hanging in
the air when Ellsworth left
office."
Porter indicated that the
other files would be available,
as they have been at his of
fice. "My files are open; I
will authorize most anyone
to see them, except for ma
licious purposes," he said.
But it wouldn't be fair to
turn over my personal and
political files to Durno. Per
sons wrote to me as a Dem
ocrat and friend in many cas
es, and they didn't write to
Durno. They would not as
sume that I would turn their
letters over to him. However.

he can ask and we can make
it available on the particular
problem."
Durno will not automatic
ally move into Porter's old
office which is in a desirable
location on the street floor
facing the Capitol. When a
man is defeated, other con
gressmen immediately apply
for the office space, tresn
man congressmen are usually
left with the closets: usually
fifth floor rear, facing the
elevator shaft.
Therefore, veteran con
gressmen, who in their jobs

For example:
A table rose from the floor
and shifted sideways.
A desk bounced up and
down three times.
A door opened as Virginia
passed through and could not
be shut.
"I don't believe in the super

said.
"It looked like an elaborate

no string and no one touched
the desk when it moved."

Billings is trying to find
jobs for the women on Por

will go to work for Sen. Mau

time help and have not been

May Stay With Porter
Billings, who was a news
commentator for a Eugene ra
dio station, will stay with Por
ter if he finds-a top job with
the Kennedy administration.
He believes his boss is a
genius" and wants to stay
with him.
I have received an offer
from my former employer in
Eugene," Billings said. "I was
flatered, but I enjoy this sort
of work and would like to
stay in it." He has applied to
incoming congressmen, com
mittee chairmen in the House,
and to the Kennedy admini
stration. Porter may be down, but
he isn't giving up on his fa
vorite legislation:
"Most of the legislative
matters I am interested in I
am going to ask Sen. Morse to
handle. I have some special
bills, and intend to keep push
ing my legislation," he said.
"I may not be the congress
man, but I can still see that
things get a certain amount of
attention, especially if I am
here in Washington on a new
job.
