Different Opinions
On Herman's Case
( Alameda, Calif.- HJPD -Two
Alameda housewives express
ed varying opinions today of
a judge's decision to slap Her
man the tomcat with a pre
liminary injunction.
"My faith in American jus
tice has been upheld," said
Mrs. J. Howard Cook.
"It's just unfair, unfair, un
fair; it's just unfairr unfair,

Bowler.
Mr. and Mrs. Bowler own
Herman. Their neighbors, the
Cooks, went into court seek
ing an order banning the or

from their property. They
claim he clawed Mrs. Bow
ler, broke a window and
screen and terrorized their 12
Siamese cats.

In a counter-suit. Herman was
lured into the Cook's yard

Herman, which has become

week. As long as he's at the
vets, said Russ Bowler, there
will be no problem about
keeping him away from the
Cook property.
"After that we'll have to
keep him locked up or on a
leash, I guess," said the Ala

Earth's Magnetic
Field May Provide ,
Explosion Indicator
Washington-OJPD-Soviet sci
entists suggest that brief
changes in the earth's mag
netic field provide " a deli
cate Indicator" of atomic ex
plosions above the atmos
phere.
The Red scientists also say
their ground instruments re
corded magnetic field changes
caused by U.S. nuclear space
shots in 1958. However, they
do not claim that they im
mediately interpreted the re
corded changes as indcatlons
of atomic Explosions.
Disclosed in Article
This was disclosed in a Rus
sian article on the U.S. Argus
and Johnston Island nuclear
experiments. A translation
was distributed here by the
Commerce Department.
In the Argus project, three
small atomic bombs were
rocketed into the sky and ex
ploded about 300 miles above
the South Atlantic in August
and September, 1958. In Aug
ust of the same year, two H
bombs were exploded at low
er altitudes, 47 and 27 miles
above Johnston Island in the
Pacific.
According to the Soviet ar
ticle, Russian stations in the
U.S.S.R. and Antarctica re
corded magnetic field disturb

experiments.

Some Frozen
Foods Have High
Bacteria Count
Washlngton-HIPl) - The Food
and Drug Administration has
found that certain precooked
frozen foods, such as bakery
gooas, pot pies ana otner prod
ucts contain a high bacteria
count, a government report
shows.
The report, scheduled to be
published soon, was based on
an FDA survey of 63 of the
nation's precooked' frozen
food plants. It found that
many of these plants have
failed to maintain adequate
sanitary conditions and other
proper processing methods,
Corrections Pushed
An FDA official told Unit
ed Press International that the
regulatory agency "has been
busy to see that the objection
able conditions reported have
corrected."
The official told UPI the
FDA has been "apprehensive"
about manufacturing condi
tions in the precooked foods
industry ever since the first
such plants were opened. He
added, however, that "no out
break of food poisoning has
been traceable to these com
mercially prepared products."

siles, had a less extensive ef
fect, although they were far

Later Than Actual Time
Analysis of the Argus rec
ords, the article said, proves
that the explosion times of
ficially announced . by the
United States were later than
the actual times. The article
did not elaborate on this.
It went on to say that short
period fluctuations of the
earth's magnetic field consti

the injection of charged par

phere" by an atomic explo
sion or natural events.
