Five-day week to be observed by
Banks throughout State
Beginning with Saturday, January 21, 1961 j all
banks in Oregon will observe a five-day banking
week, Monday through Friday. The new five-day
banking policy is in keeping with the prevailing
practice of banks nationally, and is virtually uni
versal in the Western states.
Additional hours of banking service on Fridays
or other week days will be provided by many of
of the undersigned banks to fit the needs of their
communities.
Perhaps the main consideration in establishing
a regular five-day week was the wishes of bank
employees. Under present conditions many fam
ilies with both husband and wife employed find it
impossible to spend their weekends together. Then,
too, a system of staggered days off dur irig the week
has made it difficult to maintain the continuity of
service you should expect.
In addition to extended Friday hours, such
other services as bank-by-mail, 24-hour depositories,
speedy bank-f rom-your-car facilities, etc, are avail
able to make five-day banking suit your require
ments. Your bank will appreciate having you discuss
with them any special problems you feel that you
might have in connection with the Saturday closing.
