The report said the Red
members.
Another change recom
mended by the study commit
tee would drop the prefix
"junior" from Red Cross pro
grams in high schools. This
decision was based on the
premise that "by the time
young people move Into high
school they no longer re
spond to the same type of ac
tivity experienced in early
gradea, and want to feel grad
uated from these, earlier ex
periences." .
Nam to Continue
The name "Junior Red
Cross" will, however, con
tinue to designate ARC pro-

i significant role for young
people to play in all its ac
tivities, including planning of
ent that the needs of our na

of young people in service to

citizenship," the report stated.
"Every youth must be made to
feel that there is a signifi
cant place for him in his im
mediate world."
Understanding, Vision
Understanding .and vision
on the part of adult Red Cross
officials is essential to the
rect the Red Cross college
program.
The committee recommend

set up at the area offices and

utilize young people as vol

service programs. This com

should be planned on a year

fields which relate to the
general purposes and educa

and colleges."
The American Junior Red
Choss dates its beginning
from Sept. IS, 1917, when
President Woodrow Wilson is
sued a call to' the nation's
school children to aid the war
effort by joining the new
youth program. Today, there
are more than 20,000,000
community and educational
developments. :
"Youth, must be given the
same consideration in the as
signment of tasks as adults,"
it declared. "Young people
are ready and willing to ac
cept new and major respon
sibilities. , One early result of the com
mittee's study wag the forma

boards, and participation In
decision-making. !
This "younger look'' for the
Rod Cross in the future was
urged In the report of a spe
cial youth committee which
recently completed- a two
year nation-wide study of the
work of the young people and
the attitudes of their adult
leaders. . " ' . . ,
