Seeks Hearing on
Post Office Move
Portland - (UPB - M. J. Frey,
a spokesman for the Portland
Chamber of Commerce, said
Friday the Chamber of Com
merce has asked all Portland
residents to exercise their
rights Implied in Article one
of the Bill of Rights to peti
tion the federal government
by airmail letter for full hear
ings on all aspects of the pro
posed Regional Post Office
transfer from Portland to Se
attle. Frey, chamber vice presi
dent, speaking in the absence
of President Thomas W. Del
zell, said the facts just will
not justify the substantial ex
penditures required to make
this move.
"The Post Office depart
ment, has not been fair in this
issue to date and if ever a
constitutional right for fair
and open hearing should be
granted this is the case," Frey
said.
The move of a portion of
the employees of the post of
fice in Portland has been or
dered for December, into of
fice space which has been
quietly acquired. The cham
ber said this order was grant
ed despite the fact that the
House Government Opera
tions committee has scheduled
hearings on the issue for -January.

Mrs. Flanagan To
Attend Conference
Mrs. George Flanagan plans
to leave today for Philadel
phia where she will attend a
meeting of the board of Chris
tian education of the United
Presbyterian church in the
U.S.A. Mrs. Flanagan, a mem
ber of First Presbyterian
church, was appointed to the
board during the General As
sembly meeting of thj church
last May.
Mrs. Flanagan has been no
tified that she has been as
signed to the commission on
higher education which is con
cerned with the 44 Presbyteri
an related colleges.
Following trie meeting, Mrs.
Flanagan will return West via
Denver, Colo., where she will
visit her son, George, who
is a student there.
Also leaving today for a
committee meeting is Dr. D,
Kirkland West, minister of
the First Presbyterian church,
who will attend a two-day
meeting of the General Assem
bly committee on church un
ion in Chicago. He will return
to Medford Tuesday.
