Brownie Revel Attended By Four Hundred Scouts
Approximately 400 Roeue
vaucy uin Scouts, filling
tour ouses and several cars,
attended a Brownie Revel rec
ently at Tomlin Forest In
utile Switzerland
The Brownie Revel opened
with Brownie Troop 43 per
forming the flag, ceremony
after which Mrs. R. W. Gray,
council president, spoke to
the girls. She welcomed them
to the revel, which was a pro
gram to decorate areas of
Tomline Forest to deoict in
ternational scenes, each area
representing a different coun
try. Senior Girl Scouts dec
orated the areas, and the In
termediate scouts acted as
guides who led groups of the
girls through the areas rep
resenting Germany, Japan,
Spain, Hawaii, and a scene
commemorating the 100th
birthday of Juliette Gordon
Low, founder of Girl Scouts.
The Brownies each wore a
headdress representing the
country of their troop's choice.
In the German area articles
from Germany and Austria
were displayed and during the
visiting time, German songs
were sung and phrases were
learned. Japan was represent
ed by Japanese dolls, songs,
costumes and games. Spain
also was represented by dolls,
costumes, and song, but the
most interesting part of this
area was a Spanish game cal
led "Rompicndo da Plnata".
A large paper bag, the plnata,
filled with wrapped candies.
is dressed to represent a boy
or girl and is hung from the
ceiling or tree with cord. The
players, blindfolded, then
take turns trying to break the
plnata with a stick. The play
ers scramble for the sweets
when they fall from the pin
ata. The Hawaiian area was dec
orated with Ieis, muu-muuB,
dolls, and grass skirts made
from cut strips of newspaper.
At the Juliette Low scene,
where scouting was explain
ed to the new girls, there was
a witch with a big, black pot
into which the girls dropped
their donations of pennies.
At the closing of the revel,
after taps, the Senior Girl
Scouts formed a magic tunnel
under which all the girls pas
sed In line to board the buses
for the return trio.

helped prepare the decora
tions, games, and' songs were
