Does "Revelation" Really
FORETELL OUR FUTURE?
Since the beginning
of time, men have
searched incessantly
for the secrets of God's
vast unknown.
Through instinct
and logic . . . through
signs and omens and
even crystal balls . . .
they have sought to
unveil the mysteries of the in
finite, hoping for a positive
"revelation' concerning their own
ultimate destiny.
Even deeply religious people
are often troubled by this instinc
tive urge to know "the unknow
able," and in their quest they
sometimes draw unwarranted con
clusions even from sacred writ
ing's. This is notably true of the
Book of Revelation, or the Apoc
alypse of St. John the Divine.
The purpose of Revelation is
not, as some seem to think, to
reveal a detailed panorama of the
future. It is not a magic key to
unlock a door that God has seen
fit to leave closed. It is, indeed, a
book of prophecy . . . and God's
Own promise... but it relates to
the past and the present as well
as the future. Like the other
Scriptures, it is a book which must
be understood in its fullness, and
with a knowledge of its precise
purpose and the circumstances
under which it was written.
The precise purpose of Revela
tion is to manifest the triumph
of Christ. With reference to the
past, it points to Our Lord's
triumph over sin and death by
His life, crucifixion and resur
. rection. As to the present, Revela
tion makes dear that this triumph
is complete only to the extent that
men accept Christ's salvation and
live by it. For the future. Revela
tion, and other Scriptures too,
leave no doubt that there will be I city state

Get some white paper, black
paper, scissors, string, and paste,
and you are all set to make your
wicked witch and grisly ghost
for Halloween. First, to make the
witch, form a cone from the
black paper "A." Make the arms
and face from white paper "B"
and "C." Paste the face on the
cone and make two slits for the
arms to pass through "D." Cut
"E" for the hat and "F for
the collar. Gather "F" and tie
around the neck.
Now a witch must have a
broom to ride on, so cut "B"
and "G" out of black, paper,
wrap' "G" around one end of
"B," a nd tie.
Now, how about a mask for
you? Cut "K" from heavy black
construction paper. Cut "L" for
the nose. Slit along the wide
edge and- fold. Paste the nose
onto "K" and tie a piece of string
on either side of the mask to tie
in back of the head. If you wish,
you may paste slit black crepe
paper on the string to look like
hair "M."
To make the grisly ghost, cut
"H" from white paper and cut
slits along the top. Form a cone
and fold and paste the flaps over
each other on top "I." Cut "J"
and pass through slits on oppo
site sides of the cone for arms.
Paint eyes, and he's all ready to
go a-haunting.
