Given for Twins
Eagle Point John and
George Minter, twin nephews
of Mrs. W. E- Hammel, were
guests of honor at a farewell
dinner held recently in the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Ham
mel, in Eagle Point. The
brothers, sons of Mr. and Mrs.
Marshall Minter. also of
Eagle Point, left the follow
ing day for Fort Ord, where
they started their basic army
training-

and Mrs. H. B. Dow and sons
David and Larry, have re
cently returned to the Rogue
Valley upon his retirement
from the army. Mrs. Dow
(nee . Beatrice Caster) is a
niece of the hostess, and this
was the first family dinner
since their return.

The general meeting of the
Womani Society of Christian
Service of First Methodist
church will begin at 9:30
a.m., Tuesday, ' October 25
with a woman s communion
service in Meeker chapel, as
the opening observance of
the week.
The program, which fol
lows at 10 a.m., will present
Mrs. Kenneth Baker, a vice
president of the League of
Women Voters, who will
speak concerning the 15 mea
sures on the November ballot.
Mrs. O. P. Taylor and Mrs
Omar Bacon are in charge of
the program, titled "Living
Echoes" which points out ways
people suffer from injustice
and inadequate laws and un
derlines personal responsibili
ty. Mrs. Baker will answer
'questions from the audience
to conclude the program.
This year the Wesley Com
munity Centers in Sun Anton
io, Tex., are a special concern
as they meet an important
need among the social and re
ligious groups of the commu
nity. Among interdenomina
tional projects supported are
literacy campaigns, prepara
tion and distribution of audio
visual materials and a world
wide missionary program.
This month Kitchen Kapers
will highlight all items for
the Christmas Gift Festival
which can be used in the
kitchen. Members are to take
aprons, towels, hot pads, hot
dish tiles and other articles
which will be modeled and
displayed
Circle 4 with Mrs. G. F.
Brood, chairman, will serve
luncheon at 12:15 p.m. and a
nursery is provided through
out the services.

bara, to Bruce Burnett, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Burnett,

Miss Walters, a 1960 gradu
ate of Crater High school, is
employed as a long distance
operator for Pacific Tele
phone Northwest company.
Her fiance, a 1957 graduate
of Crater High school, Is s
junior at Oregon State col
lege, where he is majoring In
electrical engineering.
A late summer wedding is
planned.
Rainbow Girls
To Hold Party
Jacksonville - Warren as
sembly, Order of Rainbow for
Girls, made plans for a Hallo
ween costume party when
them met last Thursday eve-
nlhg. The party will be held
Saturday, October 29, from
8 to 11 p.m. at the Masonic
temple.
Members of Warren lodge.
Adarcl chapter, Order of East
ern Star, and parents of the
girls are invited. Those at
tending who are not in cos
tume will be "fined."
Miss Cora Ravenor is chair
man of decorations; Miss Car
olyn Rickert, refreshments;
Miss Rebecca Starns, enter
tainment, and Miss Mae Sat-
terfleld, novelties.
The group has changed the
time for regular meetings to
7:45 p.m. and the mother ad
visor, Mrs. Clarence Young,
and worthy advisor, Miss
Janice Armstrong, have asked
that members be at the tem
ple promptly at 7 p.m. The
next meeting will be Thurs
day, October 27.
Program Planned
For Pi Beta Phis
Alumnae of Pi Beta Phi,
national social sorority, will
have a program on Japanese
flower arrangement at their
meeting Thursday, October
27. The 8 p.m. meeting will
bee at the home of Mrs. Rob
ert C. Beatty. 1798 Myers
lane, Medford.
The flower arrangement
demonstration will be given
by Mrs. Richard Dol, Ashland,
who had six months of train
ing at the Sogctsu School of
Flower Arrangement In Kyo
to, Japan. An additional part
of the program will concern
the PI Beta Phi Settlement
school in Gatlinburg, Tcnn.,-
the sorority s philanthropic
project since 1912.
Mrs- Elliott MacCracken of
Ashland, president of the
Medford PI Beta Phi Alum
nae club, will conduct a short
business meeting. Co-hostesses
with Mrs. Beatty will be
Mrs. Earl T. Johnson and
Mrs. Robert J. O'Sullivan of
Medford. All alumnae in this
area are invited to attend the
meeting.

Shady Cove-Mrs. Mildred
Ramsey, Shady Cove, became
the bride of Lloyd Davis in
an evening ceremony held at
the home of Mr. and Mrs.
James Hopkins, Trail, Friday,
October -14.,
The Rev. John Power of
St. Martin's Episcopal church
Shady Cove, officiated at the
single-ring rites.
Mrs. Robert Brooks, Glen-
dale, Calif., was matron-of-
honor for her sister, and Mr.
Brooks gave the bride in mar
riage. James Hopkins was
best man. . '
The bride wore a rose lace
gown with shoulder-length
veil and carried an orchid.
The honor attendant wore an
oyster white sheath dress
and also carried an orchid.
A reception for members
of the immediate family and
close friends followed. Mrs.
Eugene Weitman, Mrs. Joseph
Waltz and Mrs. Robert Bishop,
daughters of the bridegroom,
gave the reception. The wed
ding cake was made by Mrs.
Waltz and Mrs. Kenneth, Ol
iver. Mrs. Power took charge
of the guest book.
Mr. Davis and his bride
left October 22 for a wedding
trip and will be at home in

The' newlyweds were hon
ored at a program given Oc
tober 15 by the Shady Cove
Grange in the school gym
nasium. The couple was es
corted to the master's station
where they were informed
that Mrs. Davis had been se
lected to appear on a "Queen
for a Day program. Kenneth
Oliver took charge of the
"television camera" with
David Bergren playing the
role of Jack Haley and serv
ing as commentator. Mrs.
Frank Linden played the role
of Betty Furness and an
nounced prizes.
Following the program,
gifts were presented to the
honored couple from the
Grange and refreshments
were served. '

Rainbow Mothers
Organize Group;
Meeting Slated
Mrs. Ira Smith has been
elected president of the'new
ly formed Mothers club of
the Order of the Rainbow
for girls. The organizational
meeting was held Thursday,
October 13, at the Jackson
ville Masonic hall by mothers
who have daughters in the
new assembly.
Other officers elected were
Mrs. Lawrence Hall, vice
president; Mrs. Dean Luehrs,
secretary and treasurer and
Mrs. Catherine Kimball, pub
licity chairman.
All mothers who have girls
in Rainbow are invited to at
tend the next meeting Thurs
day, October 27, at 7:15 p.m.
at the Jacksonville Masonic
hall.

rine corps psychiatrist, Wil
liam E. Mayer, on "Commu
nist Indoctrination - was
heard. Dr. Mayer stated that
Korean , war prisoners were
"brainwashed" by education
and indoctrination,' not tor
ture and drugs. The Commu
nist primary weapon was said
to be indoctrination, where
as our primary consideration
is the human being.
"There is too much lethar
gy on the part of Americans
towards civil defense and
Communism," he said. "We
have to learn to understand
the Communist line - it
won't go away if we try' to
ignore it."
A controlled study was
made of a "cross section of
American males" from Ko
rean war "camps. Dr. Mayer

A breakfast in honor of
"bosses" is being planned by
Insurance Women of Jackson
County. It will be held 'at
Rogue Valley Country club
Tuesday, November 1, at 7
a.m.

the event, and in addition it
is stated that anyone inter
ested is invited to attend. Res
