Stover Lyda, a teacher at Med
ford High school, told city
police Thursday that an auto
mobile crankshaft was taken
from the school Wednesday,
Lyda said the crankshaft was
sitting outside of the auto
mechanic shop when taken.

building department recently
issued a $1,D00 permit to the
city of Medford to reroof a
warehouse at the municipal
airport. A $2,500 permit was
issued to the Marshall Nursery
to erect a store building at

ROBERT E. CLANCY
Robert E. Clancy, 51, of
Brookings, died in Brookings
Wednesday.
He was born Oct. 26, 1908.
He grew up in Medfor,d, and
attended the Medford schools.
He is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Dorothy L. Clancy; and
two sons, Robert W. Clancy
and Frank F. Clancy, all of
Brookings; . his parents, Dr.
and Mrs. R. W. Clancy, Seat
tle, Wash., and one sister,
Mrs. Winifred M. Bagg, Win
slow, Wash.
Funeral services will be
held at Perl Funeral home
Monday at 2 p.m. The Rev.
Robert E. Dowrey, assistant
pastor of the First Methodist
church will officiate. Burial
will be in Siskiyou Memorial
park.

at the Veterans hospital in
Vancouver, Wash., Wednes

ices for Hugh Moore, 60, of
332 Burgess si., Grants Pass,
will be held Tuesday, Oct. 4,

Mr. Moore difd at his
home Friday, after spending
most of his life in southern
Oregon. He was born Jan. 1,
1900, in Wimer, Ore.
He is survived by his wife.

ville cemetery In Rogue Riv
er, Medford and Grants Pass
Eagles will conduct the serv
ice.
Mr. Moore was a member
of Medford Eagles lodge.
LOUIE FREITAS
Yreka-Funeral services for
Louie Freitas, 49, of Horn
brook, who died Sunday
while hunting near his home
on the Klamath river, were
held Sept. 28 at St. Joseph's
Catholic church in Yreka.
Burial was in Henley
Hornbrook cemetery.
Mr. Freitas was born
April 7, 1911, in Oro Fino,
Calif., and had ranched in
Hornbrook since 1937. On
Sept. 27, 1943, he married
Dorothea McMaster, who sur
vives.
In addition to ranching, at
the time of his death Mr. Frei
tas was the U.S. Star route
mail truck driver from Horn
brook to Copco.
He also drove the Horn
brook grammar school bus
for several years and was
maintenance man at the
school.
Survivors, in addition to
his wife, include two daugh
ters, Maxine and Alice; a son,
Arthur; his mother, Mrs.
Minnie Barnes, Yreka, and
two brothers, Frank Freitas,
Montague, and Jesse Freitas,
Klamath Falls.

Esther Emma Zempel, 52, of
1002 Murray St., who died
Thursday, will be held at
Hillcrest Mortuary chapel, on
the North Phoenix rd., Mon
day at 1:30 p.m. The Rev.
John Simon, of St. Peter's
Lutheran church, will offici
ate. Committal will be in
Hillcrest Memorial park, with
Conger - Morris, funeral di
rectors, in charge of arrange
ments. Miss Zempel was born Mar.
22, 1908, in Minnesota, and
had lived in Medford for the
past seven years.

er, Mrs. Bertha Zempel, Or
tonville, Minn.; two brothers,
Edgar Zempel, Ortonville,
Minn.; and Arnold Zempel,
Medford; two sisters, Mrs.

Youth Offered Ride
In Stranger's Car
Friday, Medford police were
cheeking a report that a seven'
year-old boy was asked to get
into a stranger's car while he
was on his wafj home from
school.
A Medford mother reported
that her seven-year-old was
approached by an unknown
man and invited fftr a ride. A
young girl was driving and
an older man and woman
were in the back seat, it was
reported. The older man invit
ed the boy for a ride, but
made no attempt to grab him,
the mother said.
