ture Secretary Ezra T. Benson
returned from abroad today
insisting that his farm pro-
gram, which Vice President
Richard M. Nixon has dls-
avowed, will gain support
from American voters "as
time oasses."
Asked if he tnougnt mis
support would grow between
now and the Novemoer presi
dential elections, Benson said
"Yes. I do."
Benson made his prediction
upon returning from a 17-day
overseas trip.
No Definite Plans
Asked if he would campaign
for Nixon, the GOP presiden
tial candidate, Benson said he
had no definite plans. '
He was asked if he expected
the Republican ticset to win
support in farm areas.
"I can't help but feel that
the farm program wnicn pres
ident Eisenhower and his ad
ministration have advocated

passes," Benson said. "It's eco
nomically sound and fair. It
has been developed on the
basis of seeking sound eco
nomic answers to economic
problems. That is what the
farmers expect and mats

Hood River To
Gel District Judge

county is going to get a dis
trict Judge, Secretary of State
Howell Appling Jr. said Wednesday.
The county is to elect a dis
trict Judge because its popula
tion is now over 13,000, he
explained.
The position of justice of
the peace in Hood River, even
though it was on the primary
ballot will not be up for elec
tion in November.
Term of the Incumbent Jus
tice of the peace, George E.
Johnson, will end the day pre
ceding the first Monday in
January.
Appling said that final day
for candidates to file for the
position is Aug. 29.

To Push Nixon

has been made of the forma
tion of the State of Oregon
Activities Committee for the
Volunteers for Nixon, a non
partisan organization dedi
cated to the election of Rich
ard M. Nixon as President of
the United States. Mrs. Cleo
Jensen was elected chairman.
"The Volunteers for Nixon
is an independent organiza
tion of people who, regardless
of political affiliation, look to
Vice President Nixon as the
best qualified man in the
United States today to ably
discharge the complex duties
of the Presidency," Mrs. Jen
sen said.
Mrs. Jensen added that the
organization welcomes the,.
membership of "Republicans,
Democrats, and independent
voters who recognize the com
pelling demand for a man of
Mr. Nixon's experience, abil
ity, and great integrity in the
White House."
