Newcomers to the city who attended the annual garden
parly of Medford Sojourners club Thursday afternoon at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Eden were Mrs. Don Larson
(at left) and Mrs. Fred, Beyer. The Larsons came here from
Houston, Tex., and Mr. Larsen is with the Missouri, Kansas
and Texas railroad. The Beyers formerly lived in New York
City and Mr. Beyer is a retired officer of the New York
City Fire department.

contract, bridge championship
in the final session of the
two-day intercity contest.
Los Angeles held a wide
lead during the first day of
competition but the New
Yorkers whittled the margin
to nine points at the end of
80 deals in four sessions which
decided the championship.
An international match
point is about equal to 100
points in a rubber bridge
score.

fer, Ira Rubin and Ivan Erdos
represented Los Angeles and
Mrs. Helen Sobel, Peter Le-
ventri, Tobias Stone and John
R. Crawford represented New
York.

three children, Sidney, Mont.,
visited recently in Medford
with Mr. and Mrs. John Hall,

sens had been in Los Angeles
tor the Democratic convention
and then toured that state be
fore coming to Oregon.

at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Eden, 211 Genessee street.
The Babcocks formerly lived in Edmonds, Wash., and Mr.
Babcock is with the Modern Tile company. The Lyons came
to Medford from Moscow, Ida., and Mr. Lyons is with the
city's parks and recreation department.

Mrs. Gladys Eaton won the
special award, Mrs. Lewis
Smith the bridge prize, Mrs.
John Goodwin the pinochle
prize and Mrs. John Luke the
canasta award.
The next meeting of the
club will be August 25 at the
Girls Community club. All
women who have lived in
Medford or the vincinity for
not more than two years are
invited to attend and become
members.

To Be Outlined
An outline of fall and win
ter activities will be given
at a meeting of Crater Lake
post and auxiliary, Veterans
of Foreign Wars, Tuesday,
August 16, at the VFW hall.
The meeting will begin at
8 p.m.

the Veterans of World War I,
barracks and auxiliary, Med
ford, attended a District 7
meeting in the Grants Pass
park August 7. Mr. and Mrs.
Don Reed, Baker department
commander and auxiliary
president, wer among those
attending.
R. Dayton, Riddle, district
commander, and Mrs. Alvin
Lucas, Medford, president of
the auxiliary, presided at the
meetings.
E. D. Potts, mayor of Grants
Pass and candidate for state
senator, spoke to the group.
He stated he was much in
favor of legislation to help
World War I veterans. Those
attending voted in favor of
the coming ballot measure
to renew the veterans loan
fund.
A potluck dinner was serv
ed at noon, followed by group
singing of World War I songs.

and daughter Linda from Sa.
lisbury, Mo., recently spent a
few days, at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Homer Flyers, Grant
road, Central Point.
