Republicans Shape
Congress Strategy0
Washington - lUI'U Republi
can strategy for the post-convention
congressional session
shaped up today as a two-way
fight to prove the Democrats
can't make good on their ci
vil rights plank and to block
large election-year spending
proposals.
Sen. Jacob K. Javiis (R
N. Y.) announced he planned
to introduce at the session
opening next Monday a bill
embodying "every major ci
vil rifihts pledge in the Re
publican platform," which, in
some ways, are less sweeping
than the Democratic civil
rights pledges.
And Sen. Styles Bridges (R
N. H.), chairman of the Sen
ale GP policy committee,
served notice that Republi
cans would do everything
they could to "hold in check"
any attempt by Democratic
presidential nominee John F.
Kennedy to push for "give
away legislation."
