The young man, who livei near Stockholm, Sweden, it shown here with one of the Flanagan's sons, John. The two students became friends
while attending lewis and Clark college, Portland, last winter. Young Sviden come to the United Slates under the provisions of a basketball
fellowship and was al first enrolled at Grant High school, Portland. Finding that his courses in Sweden had already covared the material'
being presented In his closses, he was admitted to Lewis and dark college. The young man will leave in about two weeks for home, first
slopping In San Francisco, los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and New York City. He has been working at Elk lumber company since his
arrival In Medford. '

Mrs. Myron Root recently returned to her home at 28 North Berkeley Way
after spending two months traveling in Europe. Mrs. Root, who was in
Oberammergau, Germany, for the opening of the 1960 production of the
Passion play, reports that visiting this little town in the Alps and seeing
the .famous village play was one of the most memorable events of her
life, later the traveler was In Italy, spending two weeks in Florence. She
heard Renala Tebaldl give a concert in Rome and attended various other
i musical events. '

Robert Littrell (at right) is shown conferring with Travel Agent George lewis just before leaving last
week for a tour of Europe. Mr. Littrell, who lives at 34 Fair Oaks drive, left from San Francisco by jet
airliner June 21 and will spend a month in Europe. Returning to the United Stales with the traveler
will be Gunther Muser, Duisberg-Hanborn, whom the Medford man is sponsoring for residence In
' this country. Mr. lewis earlier this month was in New York City for a tour of the new Italian liner, th
Leonardo Da Vinci, after the ship's arrival here on her maiden voyage.

Chris Jarvi, 16-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Sim Jarvi, former Medford
residents now living in Monrovia, Calif., is spending several weeks with
Mr. and Mrs. Lester Bradshaw, Bradshaw lane, Eagle Point. Chris It
shown here with Dana, the Bradshaw's young daughter, as the two
enjoyed a rest between dips in a neighbor's swimming pool.

Peterson, will represent Oregon In
the president's Invitational recital
to be a part of the annual conven
tion of the Western division, Music
Teachers National association,
which opens in Eugene today. Miss
Peterson, who was graduated from
Willamette university In June, was
a princess in the May Festival court
and Is pictured during the event.
She Is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Emll Pelerson, Jacksonville high-,
woy, and Is a member of PI Beta
Phi sorority.
Summertime means vacation and trips for Medford families, Mr.
and Mrs. Ralph B. Matthews, 601 Dakota avenue, with their two
daughters, Anne (at right) and Sarah, and, their son,. Vl.nce, .7, ,
returned home recently after a molor trip to Washington, D. C,
where they formerly lived. The Matthews were accompanied by
Mr. Matthews' mother, Mrs. Ralph U. Matthews of Mesa, Ariz., who
olned the family In Salt Lake City. At present the Matthews are
busy with the plans of their older daughter to enroll In lewis and
Clark college, Portland, for the fall term. Miss Matthews was
graduated from Medford High school In June as an honor roll
student and was awarded the substantial Max D. Tucker scholar
ship. She will study languages. Sarah will attend Mcloughlin
Junior High school In the fall and Vince Is a Washington school
student.
