the most class. He was the
suave, sophisticated man with
tremendous impact."
Nat King Cole, mellow,
penetrating crooner, placed
sixth on the list.
"The younger generation Is
providing some fine singers,

time there are dozens of good
singers around, but most of
them come and go with the
fads. I've seen It happen to
more young hopefuls than
can count.
"But I think Bobby Darin

bilities in the current Issue of
Its monthly magazine "Serv
ice." It reminds Its readers of
the days of long ago when
King Edward 11 of England
decreed that none could burn
coal, but must use wood.
The producers of wood fuel
then were Intent upon pre
venting Inroads Into their
business by coal, not a little
of which came from Wales
which shortly before had been
taken over Into the English
dominions by the father of
Edward II. The latter became

Now in the 20th century,
there is a drive by the coal
interests to got us back to coal
from oil and natural gas, says
Service.
"The first step In the plan
ned program," says the arti
cle, "It to obtain a govern
ment study whose guide lines
would lead to the establish
ment of a national fuels poli
cy. "Supporting this effort are
coal mine operators, the Un
ited Mine Workers of Ameri
ca, coal-carrying railroads,
many coal burning utilities,
and manufacturers of equip
tion ment for mining and util
izing coal."
Arguments set forth by
these groups are that we are
in danger of running out of
oil and natural gas, and these
fuels should be conserved and
their sale limited by law.
"Coal would thus be given
a monopoly in selected areas
of the fuel market," says Ser
vice, and "the buyer would be
denied his choice of fuels
and he would lose the bene
fits which always derive from
competition."

Cities Service denies that
there is any shortage of oil
or natural gas and cites fig
ures to show we have sup
plies for many years ahead.
Oil reserves are estimated
at 300 billion barrels by the
U. S. Geological Survey and
up to S00 billion barrels by
others. And during the last
100 years or since petrole
um was discovered in this
country we have only us
ed about 60 billion barrels.
