Normal days (prior to 1910),
the college was discontinued
until 1028 by act of legisla
ture) were presented to the
college and hung In the Car
penter room of the Dritt stu
dent center.

of Miss Amalln Brltt, daugh
ter of Peter Brltt, early-day
Jacksonville pioneer, photo
grapher, painter, and business
cnterpreneur. Miss Brltt, for
whom the student center is
named, left much of her en
tire estate to Southern Ore
gon college when she died
in 1054.

cal note was that of the Hcv.
J. II. Skldmorc. Mr. Skldmore,
acting partly as an Indepen
dent promoter, took over an
unfinished building, complet
ed the carpenter work and
began, In 1H72, the first col
lege In Ashland, serving as
Its president until It collapsed
for want of funds and was
taken over by the Methodist
Episcopal church In 1B78

professor emeritus of entomol
ogy at Oregon State college,
Is vice president.
Three Held for
Assault, Robbery
St. Helens -OIPD-Thrco Port
land men were charged with
assault and robbery here
Wednesday after being picked
up while allegedly attempting
a getaway from a service sta
tion robbery Tuesday night.
The three were Donald Al
len Martin, 18; Ronald Pat
rick Clancy, 22; and James
Donald Hayes, 23.
Three men were spotted by
a passing motorist as they
dragged service station owner
William Klsler Into a rest
room at 8:19 p.m. The motor
ist trailed' the trio to a second
service station where stale po
lice, made the arrest.
Scout Jamboree
Set This Weekend
A Boy Scout Jamboree for
the Crater Lake council will
be held beginning Friday
afternoon at Lake of the
Woods, according to Earl
Yoakluy, vice chairman of ac
tivities. Scouts from all troops In
the council, which Includes
southern Oregon and north
ern California, will partici
pate in the week end event.
The- Jamboree will feature
competition among the boys
in all phases of outdoor liv
ing and general Scout life
and activities.
Chairman of the jamboree
is Rene Bounds. Various !
troops will be transported to
the lake individually.
