State highway department
maintenance crews started
patching work on North Cen

lic Works Director Vern

According to highway de

west,
It was reported that several
spots on the South Pacific
highway near Talent would
be repaired before work la
started on Riverside ave. The
work U expected to be com
pleted In about seven days.
Highway department offi
cials cautioned drivers to fol
low Instructions of flag men
where the work Is under way
and to drive 'slowly In the
oiled areas.
Following the patching the
highway department will cen
ter stripe the streets.
Behind Schedule
Due to poor weather condi
tions In other parts of Ihc
state earlier this year the
highway department's paving
program is behind schedule,
It was reported. Due to the
delay, several of the cross
walks in the more heavily
traveled areas of Medford
were repainted by the city
crews last month.
Thorpe explained that the
crosswalks were painted prior
to the patching as a saiety
factor as the paint had been
obliterated in some areas.
He said that the cost of the
paint and crews to redo the
few spots where patching may
cover the markings would be
small considering that acci
dents moy hove been prevent
ed due to the recent painting.
