Easy Supper Dishas
Pork sausage has always
been a breakfast favorite. It
is equally delicious for other
meals, too. Homo service con
sultants suggest sausage pat
tics with rice for a quick
luncheon or supper dish. Toss
pineapple chunks and some
curry powder Into the rice
and serve a sausage palty on
each mound. Cooked noodles
seasoned with garlic salt and
Romano cheese makes an in
teresting accompaniment for
sausage. Pork sausages should
be cooked slowly. Start the
patties In a cold skillet at me
dium heat. Fry 15 to 20 min
utes, draining off the fat oc
casionally.

Poisoning Treated
With Rabbit Serum
Birmingham, Ala.-(Science
Service) A pediatrician here
has successfully used a serum
from certain strains of rab
bits to treat patients with
atropine poisoning, which ac
counts for many childhood ac
cidents. The victims, almost always
under four years old, are
poisoned by cold tablets and
other adult medications they
find and eat or by plants such
as deadly nightshade, henbane
and jimson weed.
Dr. Harry C. Shirkey, di
rector of the Children's Hospi
tal here, treated the patients.
Dr. Shirkey worked with Dr.
Gilbert C. Schmidt, Gary
Flamm and Leroy Honkomp,
all of the University of Cin
cinnati in Ohio, in developing
the serum.
The scientists believe en
zymes in the rabbit serum are
responsible for its protective
effect. Since several animals
are thought to be immune to
poisons that would kill chil
dren, the scientists anticipate
the possibility of using animal
sera, animal parts or extracts
of animals for antidotes for
other poisons.
