Flare Anew

Two Eastern Oregon fire
believed under control and
in the mopping up stages

afternoon.

an 18,000 acre rnngo fire In
Northern Malheur and Harney

by heavy afternoon winds.
Firefighters were forced
back and a call was Issued
or five borate dropping air
craft from La Grande.
One hundred men were
brought In to relieve some 300
men already fighting the fire.
In Juntura Region
The fire had spread Into
Malheur county's Juntura re
gion and was believed under
control when It flared up
again Wednesday afternoon
on the north and wost sides,
and Jumped tho line on a
high ridge.
Planes from Redmond and
Bolao sprayed boralo on the
lire.
Ed Booker, spokesman for
tho Bureau of Land Manage
ment, said the blaze appar
ently started when a rancher
left a smouldering campflre.
Lightning storms Wednes
day evening touched off seven
more fires In tho Jordan val
ley area. Officials at last re
port did not know how large
tho fires would be.
Moves Into Idaho
The fire that started Tues
day In tho Jordan Valley area
had consumed 700 acres up
to Wednesday morning and
was also believed under con
trol when It, too, Jumped
lines.
Tho fire charred 1B0O acres
and moved Into Idaho and
through, the pasture of the
Jack Dcntcl ranch when
strong winds came up to fan
the blaze.
An attempt was being made
to get more men to battle the
fires. Men and equipment
were expected from Princvllle
and the Baker district.
Bolso, Idaho, planned to
end men to the flro.

the J. C. Penney company,
Mcdford, according to Glenn
Linn, school principal.
The exhibits were made
during the session starting
June 20 and ending next
week. The projects, made un

main on display until Satur
day, Linn added.'
