Tuesday.
An embassy spokesman
said the Americans, two cap
tains and an enlisted man,
wore "endangered, insulted,
threatened with weapons,
manhandled and detained . , .

Public Utility
Ruling Issued
Salem - IUPD - Attorney
General Robert Y. Thornton
said today it is proper for
the Oregon Public Utility
Commissioner to assess fees
from motor cnrrlcrs on the
Oregon portion of Interstate
toll bridges,
Highway use taxes are In
volved. One discrepancy cleared up
by the opinion is that on the
Interatnto bridge between
Port land and Vancouver,
Wash, tho boundary between
the two slates is located 12
feet south from tho center of
Pier Six while on the Long
view bridge the boundary Is
nt the center of the main
pan,

Of course, experience and
physical stamina help. Possi
bly Adele Is a llttlo short on
both. Probably she would
like to do more than is physi
cally possible and this drains
her nervous energy as well.
Allele should accept the
fact that her home cannot be
a showplaco while she has
tiny children. She should set
a few reasonable, minimum
slundards. If she cannot keep
up with those, she should low
er the standard a bit.
Psychologists find that most
of us can overcome a feeling
of being overwhelmed by sim
ply tackling the most urgent
Jobs first. With three small
children, laundry Is probably
a big problem. Adele should
set about superficial ordering
of the house- and then relax if
she can!
Brief rest periods through
out the day will help. She
should sit down or He down
whenever possible. And when
she relaxes she shouldn't look
around thinking what she
should or might be doing. That
rest period is the most Impor
tant thing In the world while
she Is at It. If she stops wor
rying, she'll bo able to get up
refreshed.
Adele should have no feel
ing of shamo about her home.
Nobody expects perfection of
her and she shouldn't expect
It of herself.

Hera's What Animals Do
When They Can't Perspire
In some Instances Nature
devised peculiar methods
whereby normal body tem
peratures of warm-blooded an
imals are maintained. In hot
weather, these animals must
be protected from extreme
heat; many attain this moder
ation by insulation, others by
perspiring.
The moisture exuded from
pores in the skin evaporates
and cools the body. But not all
animals are equipped with
these peculiar little colled
tubes, so they must resort to
other means.
Cattle with the exception of
the Brahman breed, arc ter
ribly short of sweat glands.
The family cow or the dairy
herd escapes tho heat of the
summer sun by remaining In
the shade during the middle
of the day; or they wade out
into the cooling waters of any
available pond. The dog, like
the cow, cannot perspire ci
ther, so what sweating they
do is done through the tongue.
Birds get along without per
spiring their feathers insu
late them against the heat ex
cept on exceptionally hot days
when they may pant and loll
like a dog. The bird's body
temperature is considerably
higher than other warm
blooded animals, therefore
except on rare occasions a
hot day causes them little dis
comfort. Even some Insects come
close to sweating, if panting
and gasping for breath is any
indication, for after strenuous
exertion some of them gasp
and pant. Wasps often come to
rest after a long flight, and
seem short of breath, or pant
because they are excessively
warm.
The horse, unlike the cow
or dog, sweats profusely so
much so that it may actually
lather. Man himself may lose
two or three pounds of body
weight in a single day from
perspiring. Human beings
have to perspire.
Nature provided eyebrows
for Just such an occasion; they
keep the water from running
Into the eyes. Accepting the
theory as conclusive proof,
we might say a man or woman
always working and living In
an air conditioned environ
ment, would have no use for
eyebrows, except for facial
ornamentation.

Small Worlds
Around Us
By Lynn M. Watkin
There are plenty of people
who vehemently deny any
honor connected with this
"honest sweat" business. Once
it was considered important
that "the sweat of one's brow"
was the most admirable of
virtues. But glorifying this
bodily function has fallen into
uisrepuie now tout we are liv
ing in the "machine age."
Man's sweating has been a
profitable boon to the manu
facturers of perspirants and
deodorants. If we are extreme
ly fastidious, we call it per
spiration, for sweat has be
come an inelegant word, but
inelegant or not, if you ever
do stop sweating you will
"have had It." Whether you
perspire or sweat depends a
little on your occupation and
your culture. The man digging
the ditch sweats, while the ex
ecutive moving his uphol
stered chair is merely per
spiring. (Released by The Register and

Hatfield Regrets
Burning of Home
Salem (HPD - Gov. Mark Hat

predominantly white neigh

League of Portland, which
asked Hatfield to comment on
the issue, the governor said:
"The deplorable action docs
nothing but harm to a com

good that might be achieved
over the years is thus tragi
cally offset. I can only ex
press profound regret to the

The nearly completed home

But the market has several
things in Its favor at this
point.
One thing sure is that com
parisons with a year ago in
industrial output will make a
favorable showing because
the steel strike in 1959
brought figures down. That,
of course, is small help for
those who take those things
into consideration.
Another factor being toyed
with is the belief the govern
ment which held tight purse
strings to make a good budget
showing will loosen up con
siderably with its purchasing
deferred to this fiscal year.
Thirdly, thU is the time of
year the traditional summer
rally gets into action.
In the fourth place, the
market usually rises in an
election year, according to
the records of the past.
Then there is the fact of
easier money and the prospect
of margin reduction some
time in the future - perhaps
not too far.
Steel ordering Is expected
to pick up. Here the problem
is when.
According to Standard &
Poors, "The economy general
ly may be regarded as having

This year looks to Standard
