In Institute Are
Noted by Director
Ashland Recent sched
ule changes for the Institute
of Renaissance Studies have
been announced by its direc
tor, Dr. Margery Bailey. The
Institute is the Oregon Shake
spearean Festival's education
al extension.
At the request of cast mem
bers wishing to participate in
the studies, "The Usurper,"
one of the courses In Renais
sance Character Patterns,-has
been moved from the 1-3 p.m.
hour to the morning time, 10
a.m. to noon daily, starting
July 11.
Registration may be made
during the hour preceeding
the first session. Location for
the six-day study is still the
Trinity Parish house in Ash
land. The course, offered by
Dr. Bailey, is an analysis of
the rise, fall, and mental suf
fering assigned in Tudor
drama to those who seize pow
er unlawfully. Its production
connection this year Is the
Festival's staging of "Richard
II."
Lectures to Continue
Lectures of past seasons
will be continued this year,
beginning the opening week
of the season and continuing
throughout the Festival-with
the Gresham series set for 3
p.m. Thursdays at the Ash
land public library and the
Trinity Noons scheduled for
Trinity hall Wednesdays. The
noon series offers a variety
of readings, with coffee serv
ed by Beta Sigma Phi.
Institute Protector for 1960,
Glynne Wlckhom of the Uni
versity of Bristol, England,
will open the Gresham Lec
ture scries with three pres
entations July 27, 28. and
29 at 3 p.m. His inclusive sub
ject will be "Shakespeare's
Stage Heritage."
The first address, "Dramas
of Worship," concerns the
dramatic elements of church
ritual and the development
of the mystery plays from It;
the second, "Pageantry and
the Stage," shows the theatri
cal qualities in tournaments
and other public ceremonials;
and the third address, "Eliz
abethan Staging," deals with
the types of staging common
during the years of Shake
speare's apprenticeship.

tion opened the first residence camp in the
United States over 100 yaars ago the sounds
of happy youngsters have filled the air as they
seek knowledge and growth In a well supervised

ner, entomologist with the
Southern Oregon Branch Ex
periment station.
Tho psylla have developed
additional resistance to the
organic phosphates, Cordy ex
plained. The three men recommend
ed that on pears where psyl
la control Is reasonably good,
use of four pounds of Guthlon
and eight pounds of DDT per
acre or one pound Guthlon
and I 'A pounds of DDT per
100 gallons.
Where psylla are a problem,
use eight pounds of Guthlon
per acre or VA pounds per
100 gallons. No DDT Is neces
sary if this strength is used,
they said.
Where psylla control Is ex
cellent, the regular spray of
eight pounds of DDT and six
pounds of Parathlon or EPN
per acre may be used. Mala-
thion is no longer effective.
DDT sprays must be complet
ed 30 days before the harvest
starts which will be July 8
for earliest Bartletts, they
said.
For mites, If a Tedlon pro
gram is followed, use It on
D'AnJou and Bosc. If chloro
benzllate or Keltans are used,
apply to all varieties. Tedlon,
Chlorobenzilate or Kelthane
are used at eight pounds per
acre or l'i pounds per ' 100
gallons.
On apples, complete the
spray July 9. Use 13 pounds
DDT per acre or two pounds
per 100 gallons. Add Tedlon,
Chlorobenzilate or Kelthane
as above if mites need controL
ling.
Add one to two ounces of
X77 per 100 gallons and
drive the spray rig slowly to
ensure good coverage. Ob
serve cautions with all phos-
