Spoil Holiday

and white "kittles" and a
four-fool snake gave authori
ties a bad time here Monday.
Especially the "kittles."
They were skunks - undc-
odorlzed.
The skunks were found In
a box on the porch of a south
cast Portland home early
Monday. Two young children
reported finding the "kitties"
and Patrolman Elmer Loos
answered the call.
Loos quickly put the skunks
In the back of his po'ice car
and drove to the Humane So
ciety. He had to drape an
old rug over the box to re
move It there, though, and
drove off, holding his nose.
Police later got a report
that n big snake was loose in
northeast Portland.
A neighbor boy told Sundl
Bowles, who was washing a
car, to look at the snake un
der her camellia bush. She
did. and called police.
The snake turned out to be
a five foot harmless eastern
Oregon bullsnakc which had
been given to the zoo but bor
rowed by a medical student
for a lecture he was giving.
The snake, left by the student
at a friend's home, had de
cided to take a Fourth of July
outing and was three blocks
away when discovered and re
trieved by a 7.00 keeper.
