born without
any sense of
decency, con
sideration for
others, shame
or desire for
self improve
ment, I did
not emphasize
the . fact that,
for every one
of these, there

I always like to ask the
mother what her boy was like
as he was growing up. In
some cases she says he was
different" from the day he
was born. He may always
have been hard to discipline
or to control in any way. In
the cases of all of these boys.

be made. Often these records
made of the tiny electric cur
rents of the brain show that
the boy has inherited an ab
normality of the brain, per
haps related to a disease that
produced epilepsy in some an
cestor. Also, the boy should
be examined by a neurologist

School officials explained

ly hopeless type of delinquent
is the one who was born men
tally abnormal-wlthout a con
science. Theoretically, such a
person ought to be kept in
some sort of a mental hospit
al, but because he has no de
lusions or hallucinations and
because, when he wishes to,
he can be charming and in
gratiating, commitment is not
possible. '
Many parents with ample
means spend enormous sums
on psychiatric treatment of
their psychopathic son; but,
as Dr. Thompson says, this
cannot do any good when in
the lad there is no founda
tion' on which one can build.
My experience, and that of
several psychiatrists, agrees
entirely with his.

$7,584 Damage Suit
Mllo P. O'Harra, Ashland, is
seeking $7,584.75 plus inter
est from Newbry orchards In
Ashland, according to a com
plaint on file in the Jackson i
county circuit court.
O'Harra charges 3,825

Taxes Assessed Low;
Payment Becomes High

Charles Demple received a
two-cent tax assessment from
the county tax assessor. The
bill came in a letter with a
four cent stamp. Demple
made out a check, which was
for two cents, and mailed it
back in a letter with a four

an industry that may eventu
ally have far-reaching effects
on American agriculture and,
subsequently, on the food
stuffs which make their way
into every American home.
There are some 5,000 worm
ranchers throughout the Unit
ed States today, but the indus
try is centered here In the San
Gabriel Valley, a suburban
area near Los Angeles, once
known almost exclusively for
Its orange groves.
Worm breeding has been
going on for about 25 years,
but not on a large scale until
six or seven years ago. And
only recently did its true po
tentialities as a soil-saver be
gin to emerge.
