Uniform Traffic
Ticket Effective
In State on Friday

stops your car Friday and
hands you a freshly-printed,
gold-colored piece of paper in
stead of the usual citation,
take it. It's the new Oregon
uniform traffic ticket.
Effective July 1 and hailed
as a major step forward by
law enforcement officers and
the courts, the five-by-eight-inch
ticket is expected to
make citing for traffic more
convenient for all concerned
including the offender.
The ticket will be issued at
all levels city, county, and
state doing away with old
multi-sized tickets, and setting
a uniform bail schedule for
traffic offenses.

fic division, believes the lat
ter will mean the end of so
called "speed traps," commun
ities where traffic arrests are
frequent and bait often very
high.
Major Offandiri Hit
The new bail schedule, how
ever, will hit major offenders
harder in some areas. The
minimum bail for a felony
involving traffic is $1,000 and
driving while intoxicated
$300.
Entry of the required bail
on the ticket by the arrest
ing officer is a new feature.
This lets the violator know
what to expect before he gets
to court,
The new ticket will do
away with long complaint
forms filled out in district
attorney offices by arresting
officers and also with long
police arrest reports.
But the police aren't the
only ones who benefit
Also unique is the provi
sion that a person arrested
in one county may be taken
to district court in another
county to answer the charge
if the latter is closer by car
Also, you can clear yourself
of a minor offense in most
instances by simply mailing
the fine.

as a witness, this does not
exclude a youngster's testi
mony from being admissable
as evidence in a trial.
In so ruling Wednesday,
the State Supreme Court up
held the conviction of William
Roy Hutchinson, Klamath
Falls, on a charge of contrib
uting to the delinquency of
a minor.

Loans Reach High
Loans have reached an all
time high at First National
Bank of Oregon, the bank's
June 15 statement of condi
tion figures showed. ,
Loans and discounts of
$507,107,549 were reported,
which topped the previous
mark of $488,958,106 set Dec.
31, 1959. The current figure
represents an Increase of $44,
172,102 over the June 10,
1959, bank call and it is up
$26,790,626 since the early
spring call, which reflects a
continuing heavy demand for
bank credit.
Deposits at the bank's 82
offices throughout the state
were reported at $833,014,
742, down slightly from last
June's $840,804,145. The cur
rent figure is down $3,493,-
802 from the March call fig
ure.
The Medford branch of
First National reported June
15 deposits of $24,455,787
and loans totalling $16,785,
804, according to J. A. Moore,
vice president and manager.
Figures at the Central Point
branch show that on June 15
deposits at the branch were
$3,028,734 and loans were $2,
516,926, according to Francis
C. Ayres, branch manager.
Comparable totals at the
branch for a year ago show
deposits of $2,952,927 and
loans totaled $2,130,123.
At the mid-year point, C. B.
Stephenson, president of the
state-wide banking system,
noted that the institution will
open a branch later this year
at Phoenix. Completion of the
new $3V4 million Portland
head office building is sched
uled for October. .
Boat Gas Price
Must Include Tax
Salem IUPD - The price of
gas sold for use in boats in
Oregon must include the six
cents per gallon state tax, the
Oregon Motor Vehicles De
partment said Wednesday ,
The department said It has
had inquiries lately from ma
rina operators and boat own
ers in all parts of the state
asking if gas could be pur
chased less the tax.
This would eliminate the
need to file a refund claim
for gas used for non-highway
purpose.
Department officials said
the law does not permit this
practice, and gas sold for all
boats must be taxed.

ments were spontaneous or
impulsive rather than "the

liberation," and held the
parents' testimony was ad
missable In a Multnomah county
case, the high court affirmed
a $9,000 judgment for Sammy
Vaughn, 13, recovered after
being hit by a truck in a
crosswalk. The defendant was
Ann Palmer Bakeries, Inc.,
and Eugene Bax.
