QUAIL DECOYS A Strategic Air Com
mand B-52G jet bomber launched for the
first time Friday three GAM-72 Quail decoy
missiles off the west coast of Florida. The
Quail is employed as a diversionary missile
and is released in coveys in order to contuse
enemy air defense by causing multiple r:'
darblips similar to the mother bomber.

A meeting oi tne uoie
Rock Stitchers 4-H club was
held at the home of Mrs.
Frank Myers June 22. We an
swered roll call by telling
whether we were planning to
do a demonstration at the
fair. Mrs. Myers told us what
the judges would, judge our
projects on and read a letter
concerning the 4-H summer
camp.
We worked on our. 4-H proj
ects after the meeting. Our
next meeting will be held on
the afternoon of July 6.

Meadows Busy Beavers
The June meeting of the
Meadows Busy Beavers 4-H
club was called to order by
the president. The meeting
was at the Pleasant home.
Nine members and one visitor
were present. The visitor was
Mrs. Mose.
The Grange is installing a
large bulletin board on the
Grange hall so we will have
to get a new community proj
ect. It was decided to look into
buying a shrub to plant on the
school grounds. Cynthia Pleas
ant and Shirley McAllister
were appointed to look into
this.
The swimming party lo en
tertain the Gold Hill 4-H club
will be held at the Hall place
June 26. All of our,4-H mem
bers are to bring cookies. '

ley McAllister will give dem
onstrations next time. Mrs.
Davis will also entertain by
showing us some tips on cake
decorating.
Traffic Fatalities
Now Total 157
Salem-IUPll-Traffic.fatalities
for Oregon in 1960 up. to mid
night on Thursday were 157,
according to the state motor
vehicles department.
It was a decrease of 44 from
the same period in 1959.
In the first 23 days of June,
traffic accidents accounted
for 20 lives. There were 22
for the same period in June
last year.
BEAUTIES TO LEARN
Hollywood-iUPIi-A program
to instruct beautiful, girls in
how to use makeup will be
presented in nearby Long
Beach Aug. 4-14 as part of
the International Beauty Con
gress. The program will be super
vised by R. Gordon Bau, di
rector of makeup at Warner
Bros.
Congress pageant director
Oscar Mcinhardt said the
makeup advice to the 56 girls
to be entered in the beauty
contest would make judging
fairer. In the past beauty
contest entrants from Asia
and the Near East had been
at a disadvantage because of
not having had modern beauty
preparations, he said.

McDonald Trial

the trial of Levi S. McDonald

Oregonian and the Oregon

McDonald last month was
convicted in Multnomah coun
ty of-the dynamiting of four
Portland trucks serving- the
t.wo dailies and was sentenced
to 10 yearsvin prison-and
fined $500.
