Klamath fields an indepen
dent aggregation. The club
applied for admission to the
Rogue Valley league but
the application came loo
late to accepted.
Roseburg White Sox and
Ashland Lithians, both un
blemished, maintained their
deadlock for the Rogue Val
ley league baseball leadership
yesterday by taking both
scuffles in twin engagements.
At Memorial stadium, White
City, Roseburg bounced Med
Jord Bowling lanes 11 to 5,
then nicked the Keglers 3 to 2.
Ashland, playing at home,
garnered a pair of close ones
from Crescent City, Calif.
Scores were 2 to 1 and 2 to 0.
Roseburg effectively com
bined its hits with bases on
balls and Medford misplays
to push over runs in the first
game. The White Sox won
out on the strength of two big
scoring surges, five runs in
the first inning and four in
the seventh.
Jess Munyon singled home
Don Wells in the top of the
seventh inning for the win
ning marker of the second
skirmish. The Bowling lanes
had knotted the fracas at 2
all after once trailing 0 to 2.
Pitcher John Livingston held
Medford in check with four
hit pitching. He allowed only
singles and no more than one
an inning. The Umpqua city
batters got to Kegler tosser
Jim Eggers for eight safeties.
Munyon 4 For 6
Munyon with a double and
three singles in six tirres up
and Jerry Droscher with three
hits in four turns led a 12-hlt
assault against Medford in the
curtain-raiser. Fred Hargis
and Ken Ayers each tripled.
Bob Pond had three singles in
five trips for Medford. George
Ice and Frank Rector had two
hits each and Ice and Larry
Perkins three-baggered as the
Bowling lanes got 10 hits.
Pitching victory in the first
game went to White Sox Man
ager Mike (Joen who scatterea
five hits in 4 23 innings of
relief, striking out six and
walking one. Roseburg hill
starter Ron Beamer was
charged with all Medford
runs, including four in the
fifth panel when he was lifted
Beamer in that frame gave up
a walk, the triple to Ice and
singles to Pond and Rector,
Perkins tripled off Coen to
bring in one runner Beamer
put on base. Beamer walked
four and struck out two.
Medford's first chucker,
Earle Tichener was tagged for
11 hits. He walked four and
struck out two while reliever
Don Sanford permitted one
hit, issued four wallu and hit
a batter. He fanned two.
Hargis Triples
The five runs in the first
frame were on singles by
Droscher, Munyon and Wells,
a triple by Hargis, two errors
and a double swipe with
Droscher stealing home. In
the seventh Jim Dietz, Liv
ingston and Munyon singled.
Droscher hit a sacrifice foul
flyout, Coen contributed a
bunt sacrifice and there were
two bases on balls and two
miscues.
In the second scrape Rose
burg tallied in the second inn
ing on hits by Ayers and
Munyon, a fielder's choice
and an error and in the fourth
panel on safeties by Myers
and Livingston, two walks
and an error.
In the fourth inning for
Medford, Ice singled and got
to third base on a pair of pass
ed balls. Frank Rector walk
ed and stole second base and
Ray Anderson drew a pass to
fill the bags. Bob Serak forc
ed Ice at the plate. Then Rec
tor got home on a passed ball.
Medford tied it in the sixth
on a walk to Ice, a sacrifice
bunt by Rector on which he
was safe on an error and a hit
by Dick Durante.
For the Sox in the seventh
Wells walked and advanced
on a wild pitch and a Drosch-
single before Munyon
brought him in.
Livingston walked five and
whiffed seven and Eggers
also walked five, striking out
three.
McABEE SHINES
Jim McAbee dashed across
the platter for three of Ash
land's four runs of the day.
Dave D'Olivo hurled a three
hitter for the Lithians in the
opener and Gene Parent a six
hitter in the nightcap.
McAbee s triple, Wayne
Paulson's double and two er
rors made the Ashland count
ers In the eighth inning of
the initial hassle. 'For Cres
cent City in the fourth inning,
Larry Howard was hit by a
pitch and scored on a double
by Lee Templeton.
In the second brush Mc
Abee slapped a ground rule
double in the fourth session.
He went to third on an error
and stole home. In the sixth
inning he homered.
D'Olivo walked one batter
and hit another and fanned
four in the first game. His
mound rival, Ron Dimmick
gave two bases on balls and
whiffed one. Paulson had two
hits for Ashland in the mix
and Snuffy Smith doubled.
Parent walked three and
struck out five in the second
battle. Ashland drew a pair
of bases on balls off CC throw
ers Terry DeGross and Bill
Palmer. Templeton hit three
for three for the Californians
and Harley Dickerson had
two safeties for Ashland.
