Installation Rites Held
For Central Point Bethel

Bride of Rodney Davis
Miss Ailene Ann Doran be
came the bride of Rodney
Franklin Davis in a ceremony
held May 27 at Sacred Heart
Catholic church. The Rev.
John Ilg officiated at the four
o'clock afternoon rites attend
ed by 100 relatives and
friends.
The bride is a daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Myles F. Doran,
2241 Skyview drive. Mr. Da
vis, who has been making his
home at route 1, box 440,
Talent, is a son of Mrs.
Leatha Hepp, Crescent City,
Calif., and Archie Davis, El
gin, Ore.
The bride, escorted to the
altar by her father, wore a
ballerina length frock of pale
pink lace. Her veil was fin
gertip length and she carried
a bouquet of white carnations
encircling pink roses.
Miss Jo Creel was maid of
honor. She wore a ballerina
length lavender lace frock
and carried white carnations.
John Winningham served
as best man. Seating the
guests were Dr. Bruce Stan
ley and James Sheldon.
The church was decorated
with white stock and pink
carnations.
Following the ceremony a
reception was held at the
home of the bride's parents
attended by 100 relatives and
friends. Miss Marlene Miller
cut and served the wedding
cake and Mrs. Bruce Stanley
and Mrs. James Sheldon
poured. Miss Lynn Creel was
in charge of the guest book.
The couple traveled to
Crescent City, Calif., on their
wedding trip. The bride wore
for traveling a white linen
suit. They are making their
home at 153 Granite street,
Ashland.
The bride attended Med-
ford High school, Southern
Oregon college, and Robert
son School of Business. Mr.
Davis attended Jacksonville
schools.

Coming Events
Coming events are an
nounced by Reames chapter,
Order of Eastern Star.
The chapter will hold open
installation of new officers on
Saturday, June 25, at 8 p.m. in
Medford Masonic temple.
Mrs. Rov Nordwick will be
installed 'worthy matron, and
E. G. Randolph, worthy pa
tron.
At a stated meeting set for
Thursday, June 23, at 8 p.m
in the temple, candidates will
be Initiated and new members
honored. Mrs. Audrey Rob
erts, worthy matron, and Carl
Oestreich, worthy patron, will
preside.
Mrs. Fred Strang will be
chairman for refreshments to
be served in the dining hall
following the meeting.

Honored at Party
Eagle Point Seventeen
friends and relatives of Deb
ria Lee Krous, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Krous,
Eagle Point, attended a party
at her home June 15 in ob
servance of her fourth birthday.
Among the guests attending
the afternoon event was Deb
ria's grandmother, Mrs. James
Dodson, Medford.
A birthday cake and other
refreshments were served.

was installed honored queen
of Bethel 38, International
Order of Job's Daughters,.
Saturday, June 11, at the
Masonic Temple In Central
Point.
Line officers installed were
the Misses Helen Goff, senior
princess; Janet Hobbs, junior
princess; June Hopkins, guide,
and Sandra Beasley, marshal.
Other officers installed were
the Misses Virginia Wilson,
recorder; Elaine Wilson, trea
surer; Cheryl Ghelardi, chap
lain; Charla Meyer, musician;
Lorraine Scalber, librarian;
Jan Campbell, Cora Bella Ra
venor, Cathleen Harsh, Nancy
Clark, Colleen Knapp, mes
sengers; Judy Patterson, sen
ior custodian; Lee Hamilton,

stalled as bethel choir were
the Misses Janice Ayres, Pa
tricia Knapp, Judy Lewis,
Elin Livingston, Joane Os
wald and Betty Plankenhorn.
Miss Ferrell had chosen
make believe" for her theme
and yellow and white for col
ors. The hall was decorated
with huge butterflies and a
lighted rose tree stood in the
east.
Miss Nanette Ferrell, small
sister of the honored queen,
escorted the bible. She was
dressed in yellow with a
crown of yellow and white
daisies.
Larry Smith sang "I Be
lieve" for the altar song.
The installing officers were
the Misses Jeanette Purdy,
retiring queen; Rachel Hamil
ton, Linda Warren, Kay Ask
with, Donna Burnett, all past
honored queens of the bethel;
Marion Parsons and Barbara
Gordon, past honored queens
of bethels 14 and 55, Medford
and Janet Kilbourn and Ellen
Ward, Central Point, mem
bers. The crowning ceremony
was performed by Crater
chapter, Order of De Moley.
Richard Lichti, master coun
cilor was assisted by Jan
Ackerman, Leslie Goff, Bruce
Burns and Boyd Henry.
Escorted were the past
honored queens serving on
the team. Mr. and Mrs. Eu
gene Ferrell were introduced
and presented the queen with
her gavel. Archie Purdy pre
sented Miss Ferrell with a
bouquet of yellow rosebuds
from Masonic Lodge 135.

ter of De Molay and their dad
advisor, Russell Fair, were in-f
troduced as well as L. R.

New Plaque
Miss Ellen Ward was pre
sented to the honored queen
and an announcement was
made that a plaque had been
purchased on which the name
of an outstanding senior girl
would be placed each term in
commemoration of the work
so many girls do who never
aspire to, or become queen
Miss Ward's name will be the
first inscribed there.
At the close of the cere
mony Mrs. Archie Furdy,
guardian, and Paul Hopkins,
associate, escorted Queen Re
becca's parents and sister to
the east. An addendum was
given for Miss Ferrell which
included Miss Sue Kelley and
Miss Ward with Miss Janet
Kilbourn at the piano.
For the reception which
followed the serving table
was decorated with yellow
and white roses. Dogwood
blossoms also decorated the
room. In one corner of the
room was a three tiered foun
tain. Persons in charge of the
decorations included Miss Ja
net Hobbs, Mrs. Ferrell, Miss
Jan Campbell, Miss Janice
Ayres, Miss Sandra Beasley,
Miss Helen Goff, Miss Sue
Kelley, Miss Jeanette Purdy,
Miss June Hopkins and their
mothers.
Family Spends
Week End Here
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Cov
ington and children, Deana
and Jack, are week end guests
of Mr. and Mrs. John Mans
field, 1615 Crater Lake ave
nue. The Covingtons, who
have made their home in
Richmond, Calif., are en route
to Seattle where Mr. Coving
ton will take over the man
agership of the Continental
Baking company.
First Night
Meet Set
By Group
The Arm Chair Travel
group will meet in the eve
ning for the first time, Mon
day, June 20. The session will
be held at 7:15 p.m. in the
Senior Activity center, 601
East Jackson street, to see col
ored slides of flowers to be
shown by L. E. McMurray,
440 Fairmont street.
Pictun s of the recent rose
parade taken during the Rose
Festival In Portland will also
be shown. Members of garden
clubs and others interested in
flowers are invited to attend.
Meetings will continue to be
at 1 p.m. after Monday unless
the evening hour seems more
popular during the summer
months 1 was reported.
The art class and the wood-
carving class continue 10
meet on Tuesday and Wednes
day afternoons, respectively.
The art class is from 1 to 4
p.m. and the woodcarving
from noon until 3 p.m. Mem
bers take a sack lunch and
start to carve at 12:30 p.m.
Equipment Needed
Fans loaned temporarily
have made the Center more
comfortable for the classes but
permanent equipment is need
ed. Persons having an electric
fan that they may wish to do
nate are asked to call the Center.
The Senior Center orches
tra, under the direction of Ed
ward Root, was given a violin
by Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Teal,
811 Adams lane, new resi
dents of Medford.
Mr. Root notified the com
mittee that the Center is
about to lose the use of the
piano. The piano was loaned
to the Center for the use of
the orchestra and dancing
classes by Mrs. Ena Foss, of
South Stage road, more than
year ago. Anyone who has
a piano to give or loan to the
Center is asked to contact
Mr. Root, SPring 3-2623.
The orchestra now meets
Thursdays from 10 to 12 a.m.
and the Spanish class from
9 to 10.
Two Daughters
Receive Degrees
Illinois Valley-Mr. and
Mrs. Albert Scott, Kerby, at
tended graduation exercises
at Oregon State college in
Corvallis June 6. Their two
daughters received degrees
from the school.
Miss Arle Scott received
bachelor's degree in phar
macy and Miss Edytha Scott
a bachelor s degree in nome
economics.
The first will be employed
at the Valley Drug store this
summer. Her sister, wno is
employed at the Illinois mar
ket, plans to be married in
August to Alan Claudson,
Selma. He also was graduated
from OSC June 6 and both
plan to teach this fall at Rich
land, Ore.
Grandmothers Plan
Meeting Monday
Central Point - Mrs. Oscar
Minnick has announced that
Crater chapter, Grandmother
Clubs of America, will meet
Monday, June 20 at 1 p.m. at
the home of Mrs. J. H. Kor
ner, 443 Oak street, Central
Point. Co-hostesses will be
Mrs. Millie Johnson and Mrs.
Sadie Cyphers.

"Corsage Making" will be
the lesson when the Sams
Valley Home Extension unit
meets Tuesday, June 21. at
10:30 a.m., acording to Mrs.
George Bush, the new chair
man. All interested women are
invited to attend the meeting
which will be at the home of
Mrs. Stanley Hall, Sams Val
ley road. Members are re
quested to take at least three
freshly picked flowers in a
container of water, a sack
lunch, and a bathing suit and
towel. Time and weather per
mitting, swimming will be
enjoyed by those who wish to
do so.
Ceremony Slated
For Bethel 56
Eagle Point-Bethel 56, In
ternational Order of Job's
Daughters, will hold a formal
installation service Saturday,
June 25, at 8 p.m. The public
is invited to the event, which
will be in the Eagle Point
Elementary school cafeteria.
Miss Jackie Hume, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur
Hume, Trail, will be crowned
queen of the bethel. Miss
Joey Hume will be the new
senior princess; Miss Eda Lar
son, junior princess; Miss
Marcia Ackerman, marshal;
and Miss Susanne Schauble,
guide.
Crater chapter. Order of
DeMolay, will assist in the
crowning ceremony. Follow
ing the service a queen s ball
will be held for bethel mem
bers and guests. Invitations
have been sent to all bethels
in the valley.
Assembly Reports
Heard by Lodge
Reports on the annual meet
ing of the Rebekah Assembly
of Oregon were given at the
last meeting of Olive Rebe
kah lodge.
Mrs. R. L. Appelgale of the
local lodge was elected and
installed as vice-president of
the Assembly. The 1961 ses
sion will be in Pendleton.
Olive Rebekah lodge will
meet Monday, June 20 at
7:30 p.m. at Odd Fellows hall.
Following a brief business
meeting, members will go to
Jacksonville to attend a
Friendship night session of
the Jacksonville lodge.

en were in Trail recently to
attend the monthly meeting
of St. Martin's Episcopal
Churchwomen.

bers and other volunteers
make for the hospital. Also
speaking about hospital work
was Mrs. Wallace Hamlin.

spoke on worship. Mrs. Leo
Hoag, formerly of Prospect
and now of Medford, also at
tended the meeting. Mrs.
Hoag is president of the south
ern deanery of Episcopal
Churchwomen.
Neighborhood Club

club will meet Wednesday,
June 22, at the home of Mrs.
Gertrude Winningham, 105
Perrydale avenue, at 12:30
p.m. Hamburgers and coffee
