Oregon Grange in
Annual Session
. Roseburg - (UPD - The Ore
gon State Grange opened its
week-long 87th annual session
here Monday with the regis
tration of some 270 delegates
and more expected today.
Some 160 resolutions were
on the agenda lor the meet
ings, but Grange officials de
clined to divulge them. Two
resolutions were made known
in scant detail.
One involves a thumbs
down on daylight savings
time. The Grange tradition
ally has been against fast
time.
The other Is in connection
with the Dunes National Park,
but the public relations of
ficer for the Grange, Ben
Buisman, said no details would
be released until the resolu
tions are entered in meetings,
National Grange Manager
Herschcl Newsome is slated
to speak before the group
Thursday.

Ttie strike would involve
2,000 clerks and about 250
food stores in Portland.
Gordon Swope of the union
said the contract expired May
1, and negotiations have been
under way for three months.
He said members, in a mass
meeting, overwhelmingly re
jected an employer offer. A
second employer offer was 10
be considered in two meetings
today and tonight.
Swope said that besides
pay, health and welfare, sick
leave and vacations were IS'
sues in the negotiations.
Clerks currently make $2.2614
an hour.
He said members voted to
give the negotiating commit
tee strike authority.
