Giant Question
Where to Start
Team Shakeup
San Francuco-uTFD-The San
Francisco Gianta, patstea at
the plate and losers of six of
their last 10 games, are due
for a ahakeup.
But Manager Bill Rigny
doesn't know where to (tart.
He benched first baseman
Willie McCovey and outfield'
er Orlando Cepeda Tuesday
night. But it did no good. The
club still lost to the Clncin
nati Reds, 5-1.
"I've just got to do gome
thing," says Rigney. "We
can't buy a hit. I've got to
come up with some kind of
a brainstorm. Maybe I'll try
Andre Rodgers reserve in
fielder at first base. I dunno.'
Rigney tried Dale Long
there Tuesday night and the
veteran touldn't hit. Neither
could Willie Mays, who came
up to the plate with the bases
loaded in the eight and lofted
an easy fly to center field,
Felipe Alou, who went to left
field In place of Cepeda, went
hitless too.
The Giants haven't scored
more than two runs In an in
ning In their last 12 games
and then only twice nave they
got two.

Bill Said To Be
Duster Pitch
Washington -OIPD- The Sen-
ate's pending baseball diil
was attached by en. jonn
Marshall Butler today as "a
duster pitch aimed at or
ganized baseball."
"The new amendment is ln
tended to keep the major
leagues off balance long
enough to enable their op
ponents to sneak by the big
pitch - that is the principle
of baseball by federal regula
tion," said the Maryland Re
publican, who is a member of
the Senate committee on In
terstate and foreign com
merce. The new bill would call for
all players over a limit of 40
on each major league club to
be subject to an annual draft.
The bill is supported by offi
cials of the Continental league
and opposed by officials of the
National and American
leagues.
