Addison'i Dlseais
Addison s disease is a rare
complaint due to a loss of
(unction in the cortex part of
the two suprarenal glands
"""pw,",t which lie just
r "i I abve the two
r.V. I kidneys. The
patient gets to
feeling very
weak; his
blood pres
sure may fall
very low; his
skin may turn
very dark;
and he may
have crises when he will get
to vomiting and will become
dangerously ill. In the old
days, the disease was fatal,
but today, what with the regu
lation of table salt in the
body, and the giving of one
of the important chemicals
that is made in the suprarenal
glands, the patients usually
can be kept in good shape for
years. Actually, the saving of
life in these cases is one of
the miracles of medicine.

Seventh Fleet in
South China Sea
Helping Indonesia
Tokyo - fUPO - The presence
of the U.S. Seventh Fleet in
the South China Sea is help
ing Indonesia.
This is an interesting situ
ation which has developed as
a result of a quarrel between
Jakarta and Pciping. It is be
ing watched closely by both
diplomatic and military quar
ters in Asia as relations be
tween the once close friends
near the boiling point.
What s the trouble between
Indonesia and Communist
China?
Won't Permit Meddling
Well, Communist China Is
angry because the Indonesian
government will not permit
Pciping's diplomats to meddle
in Indonesian internal affairs.
What has Indonesia done?
It has revoked the consular
status of two Communist Chi
nese officials who refused to
obey previous warnings to re
strict their activities. It has
lectured the Communist Chi
nese on proper behavior.
How can Indonesia act in
such a way toward the so
called mighty Communist Chi
nese rcgimo and get away
with it?
Too Much Water
Pelping can not send her
large land forces marching
toward Jakarta. There i too
much water to cross. But
more Important, the U.S. Sev
enth Fleet is steaming back
and forth in that water and
the Chinese Reds know it only
too well.
With the U.S. Seventh Fleet
standing between Indonesia
and Communist China, Pelp
ing't tremendous "anti-Indonesia"
propaganda campaign
means little to the men re
sponsible for the destiny of
Indonesia.
I have to say that the usual
explanation given a woman
when at around the age of 48
or 50 she stops menstruating
and starts to flush and feel
hot, and to sweat, is evidently
not the whole story, because
here comes a woman who says
that she is getting either her
first or her second menopause
10 or 15 years after her ovar
ies shrunk up and quit func
tioning. I do not know what
the explanation is. Evidently
she is having what I call a
nervous "storm."
Black Molei
People keep asking if it is
true that black moles are dan
gerous. Yes, they are; and es
pecially those on the hands
and feet and private parts. Be
cause once such a mole starts
growing or ulcerating, it is
often too late for a cure. If
I had a grandchild with a few
black moles on his skin, I
would have them cut out now.
When a black mole becomes
cancerous and the cells scat
ter, the chances of a cure are
slim.
Leukoplakia
Leucos, in ancient Greek,
means white, and hence leu
koplakia is a condition in
which a white plaque forms
on the lip or in the mouth or
at the entrance of the vagina.
We doctors often view this
condition with some alarm be
cause cancer can grow in
plaque. Oftentimes the plaque
had better be excised.
