Idea for Program
Idea for the program form
ed about a month ago when
Stock, 24-year-old employee
of the county's public wel
fare commission, approached
the Medford 20-30 club, of
which he is a member, with
his plans for the project. The
club agreed to sponsor it, and
Stock volunteered to investi
gate the necessary arrange
ments. First necessity was a clear
ing house where both pros
pective employers and em
ployees could make applica
tions. Stock visited John Patton,
manager of the Oregon state
employment service's Med
ford office, and Patton imme
diately gave the program his
approval. He told Stock his
office would handle applica
tions from employers and em
ployees from throughout the
county.
Suggests Ashland Offica
Patton pointed out, how
ever, that it might be wise
to have a second office in
operation in Ashland for the
convenience of the large num
ber of teen-agers in that area
who undoubtedly would be
interested in the project.
Another 20-30 member,
Richard O'Dell, called on
brothers Carol and Lowell
Anderson, who own the East
Side Drug store in Ashland.
The Andersons said they
would handle applications In
the Ashland-Talent area and
the project was on its feet.
Here, briefly, is how the
program will operate:

Ashland - A construction
permit for the Faith Taber
nacle, Ashland, to build a
1.000-watt daytime radio sta
tion was approved Wednes
day by the federal communi
cations commission, the Rev.
Leo Wine, minister of the
church, reported that he had
been informed this week.
The station, to be built at
the church and on four adjoin
ing acres, will broadcast re
ligious music and programs
and news on 1350 kilocycles.
The station will be operated
on a commercial basis owned
and operated by the non
profit corporation, Faith Tab
ernacle church. The studios
will be built inside the pres
ent church building. Mr. Wine
said, with the 185-foot trans
mitter tower to 'be construct
ed on the adjoining property.
Construction will start imme
diately, he said, with tentative
plans for broadcasting to be
gin in September. The station
is expected to cost approxi
mately $25,000. It will em
ploy four persons and have

employment service. Informa-

applicant's name, age, ad
dress, telephone number, type
of job wanted, hours avail

nent. They must list what type
of jobs they have to offer and
any special experience they

Work permits, when re
quired, will be furnished by
the employment service.
Employee applications will
be filed according to job pref
erences and every effort will
be made to sec that there
is equal distribution of as
signments. Hours which teen
agers are able to work will
be taken into consideration.
Operate in Summer
The program will operate
throughout the summer. Em
ployers need only call either
of the two clearing houses
during standard working
hours Monday through Fri
day. If an employer wants
the services of a particular
youth who has worked for
h'eji previously, the employ
ment service or drug store
will attempt to contact the
teen-ager concerned. If he or
she is not available, another
individual will be contacted.
Stock said he wishes to em
phasize that the program is
open to both boys and girls,
and stressed that the word
"employers" includes not only
business firms but private in
dividuals who wish to hire
youth for such chores as baby
sitting and yard work.
"I believe youths in Jack
son county will support the
program," Stock said, ''be
cause they never have had
such an opportunity, even
though they often have ex
pressed a desire for it."
"But," he added, "if this
program is to work, it must
