Straub said establishment
of such a park would be con
trary to the best long range
interests of the state.
He told Lincoln county
Democrats here there should
be future recreational devel
opment on forest lands to be
done within the framework of
the sound multiple use con
cept of forest management.
He said the California Sier
ra Club had mapped plans for
a giant Cascade National Park
of nearly one million acres to
be carved out of the Willam
ette, Deschutes and Mt. Hood i I
National Forest. "Such a vast
park, if created, would strike ,
a serious blow to our vital for
est products industry in Ore
gon.

today its charts showed the
first indication of a break in
the long spell of cold and wet
weather.
