tour of Sacred Heart' hospital Thursday,
students from various Rogue valley high
schools were permitted to view surgery
facilities and other areas of the hospital
that the average visitor does not see. Above,

Approximately 100 selected
students from nine Rogue val
ley schools attended a Career
Day program at Sacred Heart
hospital Thursday, planned by
the hospital as part of its ob
servance of National Hospital
Week.
The day's program was di
vided into two sections, with
ninth - graders attending the
three-hour morning session de
signed to acquaint them with
various careers in the field
of medicine.
The students were welcom
ed by Sister Luke of the
Savior, hospital administra
tor, and addressed by Dr. Wil
liam Miller, chief of staff.
A film entitled "H e a 1 1 h
Careers" was shown to the
students, and they were di
vided into smaller groups for
conducted tours of the hos
pital. Displays, lectures, and
question and answer periods
were arranged in the surgery,
x-ray, laboratory and pharm
acy departments.
Early in the afternoon, up
per grade students who were
particularly interested in the
field of nursing arrived at the
hospital. The afternoon pro
gram followed a pattern simi
lar to the morning's events,
but was beamed directly at
the nursing field, with the
film, "My Cap is My Crown,"
depicting the work of student
nurses, taking the place of the
one shown the earlier section.
Also featured as a part of
the day's program was a party,
for the triplet sons of Mr. and
Mrs. James W. Rolls who
were born Dec. 2S, 1054. at
the hospital. Present at the
event were Mrs. Kara Rucker,
R.N., and Mrs. Addie Price,
R.N., who cared for the trip
lets at the time of their birth.

Relief corps, auxiliary to the
GAR of the Civil War, is at
tempting to put flags at all
GAR graves at Central Point,
Jacksonville, and Sams Val
ley on Memorial day, officials
have announced.

Fish Commission said Satur
day salmon escapement has
risen in both the Columbia
and Willamette rivers in the
past 10 days.
On opening day of the com
mercial spring season April
30 the cumulative count of
Chinook salmon at Bonneville
dam was about H7,0II() and
through May 9 was close to
63.000.
By April 29 about 200
Chinook were estimated to
have passed Willamette Falls
but an additional 800 passed
during the week ending May
7.
Gillnet landings in the Co
lumbia during the first week
were estimated al 30,000
Chinook, about 60 per cent
of the number caught in the
first week of 1959.
