To Help Solve
Poison Problem
Accidental poisoning of
children is problem which
can be solved only through

week.

households despite repeated
medical warnings.
McNeil cited a chart rcc- j
ently issued by the American
Medical association's commit
tee on toxicology which lists
thse eight rules to prevent i
poisoning:
Keep all drugs, poisonous !
substances and household
chemicals out of reach of chil
dren. 1
Nonedible Products
Do do not store nonedible
products on shelves used for
storing food:
Do not transfer poisonous '
substances to unlabeled con-1
tainers.
Never reuse containers of '
chemical substances.
Do not leave discarded med-!
icines where children or pets
might get at them.
Never tell children you are
giving them candy when you
are actually giving them med
icine. Read labels before using
chemical products.
Never give or take medi
cines In the dark.
To treat poisoning, the
chart lists these instructions:
Stop Absorpltion
"Stop absorption of the
poison. Speed is essential. If
possible, one person should
begin treatment while anoth
er calls a physician. If not,
the nature of the posion will
determine whether to call a
physician or begin first aid
measures first. Save the pois
on container and material it
self if any remains. If the
poison Is not known, save a
sample of the vomitus."
The chart also lists first aid
measures covering recom
mended treatment for poisons
which enter the body through
various methods.

cooking club held two meet
ings recently at the Apple
gate school.
The group saw demonstra
tions by Linna Pctric on set
ting a table and Diane Brews
1er and Sally Herriott on how
to make and frost a cake.
A dinner was planned and
the record books checked.
There will be nd more meet
ings of the club.

The meeting of the Phoenix
Whiz Knits 4-H club was call
ed to order by the President
Diane Bolz.
Under old business they
continued discussing plans for
their outdoor party early this
summer. Under new business ;
they started knitting a blank
et for their mascot. This is a
project which will be carried
on by all "forgcters" who
come to the meeting. j
