I'd love to be a LOVER
' I ove makes the world go round" . . . "Every
L body loves a lover" ..." "Tis better to have
loved and lost than never to have loved at all!"
With such famous adages thrown at us all the
time, is it any wonder that, despite what success
I've enjoyed, I'm still a frustrated actor? Why?
Because from the day I entered show business,
I've always wanted to be a lover. Oh, it's fun,
of course, making a clever remark on the screen
while some 6-foot-4 guy walks away with the
leading lady. But wouldn't it be more fun to let
someone else make the bright remark while
walk off with the leading lady?

pens. I've gotten close on occasion. In "Pillow
Talk," it took Rock Hudson nearly an hour and
a half to win Doris Day away from me. So
I'm making some progress.
When I discussed the possible evolution of
Tony Randall, lover-boy, with my agent, he
said: "Tony, you won't be accepted as a screen
lover, until you know more about the subject.
Take a good look at all the types of screen
lovers, then pick one out and be that type!"
So I took some time away from filming "The
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" and, with
the help of beautiful Valerie Allen, I did just
that. You'll love me!
