Rain Making Still
Puzzles Scientists
Washington - (Science Serv
ice) - A survey of three years
of rain making efforts in Cali
fornia has left unanswered
the question of whether seed
ing clouds with silver iodide
thrown into the air irom the
' ground actually produces
- more rainfall than would have
occurred naturally.
The scientific survey did
. ihow that further experi
ments are needed to solve the
puzzle of why some clouds
produce rain and others do
not, and of whether man's in
terference can effect rainfall
amounts.
Drs. Jerry Neyman, Eliza
beth L. Scott and Marija Vasi
levskls of the University of
California, Berkeley, report
th effectiveness of a
scientific cloud seeding pro
gram during the period irom
