Tornado Outsvats
Yreka High Miners
Medford high baseballers,
paced by the swatting Mike
Parsons, Jim Barry and
Lowell Dean, outslugged
Yreka, Calif., 11 to 6 here yes
terday In a non-league brush.
The Black Tornado spotted
the Miners four runs in the
top of the third inning then
came back with four of their
own in the bottom of the
third and four more in the
fourth. Medford added a single
tally in the fifth canto and
two In the sixth. Yreka picked
up a pair in the seventh.
Parsons, who hit a home
run ball which bounced to the
high school building, had a
double and single also for
Medford. Barry also smacked
three safe blows. Dean dou
bled and singled and kept up
his Impressive runs batted in
record by knocking home four
counters.
Dick Ragsdale also had two
hits, one a double. He, Ken
Jensen and Parsons had two
runs driven in apiece. Run
ners scored after the catch of
flyouts by Jensen.
John Ellis and Daryl Sev
erns three-baggered and Sev
erens and Gary Gresham dou
bled for the Miners. Severns
knocked In two runs.
Yreka gained its four runs
In the third canto on Ellis's
triple, Gresham's and Sev
erns' two-basers, singles by
Dan Behnke and Dennis Mc
Carthy and two errors. The
hist, off Tornado starting
pitcher Bob Quinney, were in
succession although not in the
foregoing order. The errors
occurred when Jensen was un
able to hang on to throws at
home plate as Yreka runners
crashed into him.
After the five safeties Quin
ney whiffed the next two
batters and the side retired
on a grounder to the mound.
Parsons led off the Medford
third inning batting turn with
a single but was forced out on
a grounder by Ray Konopa
sek. Barry hit and Konopasek
tallied on a fielder's option
rap by Thompsor. Dick Rags
dale got on board by bouncing
a hit off pitcher Mike Jones
and Barry came home after
Jensen's flyout. Calvin Dean
walked and Lowell Dean
socked a high fly which drop
ped Into right field for a
double. Thompson and Rags
dale scored.
Parsons started the fifth
with his roundtrip clout. Kon
opasek got on bass on an
error and Barry on a single
Konopasek was caught in a
hotbox and finally put out on
another fielder's choice swat
by Thompson and Barry and
Thompson advanced to second
and third when the rundown
was in process. Ragsdale dou
bled home the two runners
and went to third base on an
error. He scored on another
Jensen flyout.

lieve Jones in the fourth canto
with one run across the plate,

Quinney and Parsons hit
back to back doubles for one
Medford counter in the fifth
inning. A tumble by out
fielder Bob Wilcox helped
Quinney to his hit. In the
sixth, a walk to Ragsdale, a
single by Jensen, an error
and a hit by Lowell Dean got
the runs.
Over the first five Innings
Quinney pitched seven hit
ball for Medford. Pat Mc
Laughlin went to the, hill in
the sixth for the Tornado and
the side retired in order. Jerry
Anderson chucked the last in
ning for Medford. After forc
ing Gresham to groundout, he
walked Behnke. Severns trip
led and came home himself on
a passed ball. Andy walked
two more with a force out in
between then picked a runner
off second base to end the
game.
Medford next will play
Grants Pass here on Friday
and will go to Klamath Falls
on Saturday, Doubleheaders
are set, with the first game
each day to be a counter in
the Southern Oregon confer
