    Medfor'd Thespian Troupe
To Present Greek Drama
"The Birds," written by the
Greek playwright, Aristo
phanes in 414 BC and mod
ernized by Walter Kerr, has
been selected by the Thes
pians of Medford High school
for their spring production.
Even though the play was
written centuries ago, its
humorous satire of civiliza
tion, along with its tremen
dous color and movement, de
lights audiences today.
The setting is a rugged
mountain-top a short distance
from Athens where the land
of the birds is located. Var
ious levels are used in the
staging of the production.
The story concerns two
young men of Athens who are
tired of taxes, laws, long
headed poets, political com
mentators, and other seg
ments and pressures of civil
ization. They are searching
for a "paradise on earth" in
which to live when they come
upon the land of the birds.
Their adventures and prob
lems here compose a most de
lightful farce-comedy.
The selection of the play
was based upon a production
of "The Birds" presented by
the University of Portland
drama department in Jan
uary. Members of Thespian
Troupe 358 witnessed the per
formance while attending
their regional convention.

JADE
Age-Old Symbol of
Good Fortune
An PCIEJC,
AS
Whether you are blonde, brunette or raven, captivating
jade will spotlight your individual beauty. This emerald
of the Orient is delicate and as lovely as a water lily, yet
possesses a hard genuineness. Artificial light has no
power to change the color or dim the beauty of jade.
The Chinese see) in jade five cardinal virtues: charity,
modesty, courage, justice and wisdom. You being an.
Occidental, know that fade cannot impart these much
desired attributes, but jade can change your outward
appearance by giving character and contrast to any dress
you choose to wear. This rare gem often greener than
the Nile, sometimes bears a mottled green and white
poetically described as "Water flowing over Moss".
The jade that you acquire now will be the heirloom of
tomorrow. No other gem is quite so wearable as jade,
for it lasts and lasts.
