author ot an article entitled

rents," which appears in the
current issue of "Audio"
magazine, which deals with
high fidelity sound reproduc
tion. i The article, written in tech
nical language but using s
jocular approach, discusses
the concepts of electric cur
rent flow and electron flow.

and electronic circuits.
Pruitt, a mathematician
and electronics authority, Is
best known in Medford as the
former proprietor of the Mu
sic Mart. During World War
II he taught mathematics and
radio theory for the U. S.
Army signal corps.
Another article of his, "Pro
tection for Your Meter Move
ment," appeared in "Elec
tronics World" last August,
and he has published other
articles from time to time. He
is currently at work on a
book on mathematics, tenta
tively entitled "Math for
Tom, Dick and Harry," parts
of which are already under
consideration by a publisher.
His wife, Dorothy, is also a
writer, having published a
number of short stories and
poems.

been ruled insane.
State Corrections Depart
ment records disclosed Wed
nesday that Richard Vernon
Smith was transferred to Mil
ledgeville State Mental Hos
pital just two months after
he started serving a six-to-1
0-year prison term at the
Georgia Industrial Institute in
Alto last Aug. 22.
Records showed that the
youth, who admitted follow
ing Hitler's Naxi doctrines,
was given a sanity examina
tion at the request of the
Alto superintendent.
Smith was sentenced to six-to-10
years on first degree
arson charges and received a
concurrent one-year sentence
for second degree arson. He
was also sentenced to one year
in prison on misdeameanor
charges.

A money order from a Port
land woman as compensation
for a tire which rolled off a
truck in Medford in 1947 has
renewed a local freight com
pany's belief that people are
basically honest, -
A letter from a Mrs. A.
Smith, which was postmarked
Portland, says:
"In 1947 we were visiting
your city and had parked on
a side street where we saw a
tire rolling down the street.
It stopped by our car. We
didn't see where it came from,
but a little neighbor girl with
us said it fell off a yellow
truck.
We took the tire and look
ed for the truck, but couldn't
find it. We brought the tire
home and put it In the base
ment. That was the Saturday
before Labor Day (in 1947)
when we found it.
Out of Work
In the spring, my husband
was out of work for several
months, and eventually sold
the tire at a gas station be
cause he needed the money , . .
"The little girl later said
the truck was like one of
your trucks we saw uptown.
At first, I didn't have the
money to repay you and then
I was too embarrassed, but it
has bothered my conscience
every time I see one of your
trucks ...
The kind of tire was then
selling for $9, so I hope this
will be alright. I'm truly sorry
I waited so long to send the
money."
Officials of the local freight
company said they have no
way of tracing the letter
since it was signed only "Mrs.
A. Smith," and there was no
return address.
Portland Censors Say
Picture Too Spicy
Portland (UPD The French
movie "The Lovers" is too
spicy in spots for a police film
censorship delegation.
Lt. John Fraser said the
Guild theater manager, Nancy
Welch, had been served with
a complaint and told to de
lete certain portions.
A hearing on the complaint
was scheduled for this afternoon.
. The film was a winner of a
silver medal at the Venice
Film Festival for this year.

The Legislative Interim
committee on criminal law
will hold a hearing in Medford
beginning at 9:30 a.m. Sat
urday, April 9, in the court
house annex, State Sen. Carl
H. Francis, Dayton, chairman,
has announced.
The committee Is consider
ing extensive revisions in the
state's criminal law, including
insanity as a defense, negli
gent homicide, control of ob
scene literature, consolida
tion of theft statutes, right of
the state to appeal, the habit
ual criminal statute, sentenc
ing procedure, pre-trial pro
ceedings in criminal cases,
and defects in criminal pro
cedure. All those interested are in
vited. Francis said the com
mittee is hopeful that persons
in this area will give their

Drowns in Sump
Portland (UPD David Me
duna, 7, drowned Wednesday
afternoon in a sump.
The boy had been playing
on logs with his brother and
a playmate when he lost his
balance and fell in the muddy
water. The body was re
covered by Jim Havelhurst, a
skin diver, in 12 feet of water.
Boy Learned Quickly
On Fishing Trip

taken along on a fishing trip

a friend.
Billy caught a 2'4-pound

Self Lacking Cash

was embarrassing for Colo
rado Springs city councilman
Meivin D. Olsen to be arrest
ed here for driving on the
wrong side of the street, but
it was even more humiliating
when he reached into his
pockets to pay $25 bond.
Olsen had only $24.94. He
sat in jail for an hour until
a friend showed up with six
cents to bail him out.
