Second in Series Of Films Set Today
A documentary film on Ore-! gon State hospital in Salem,
gon's state operated mental
hospitals will be shown at
11:30 o'clock this morning
over KBES-TV.
This is the second of three
reports on Oregon's mental
institutions. The film will
show facilities and programs
for older patients at the Ore-
trips through the Eastern Ore
gon State hospital in Pendle
ton and the Mid-Columbia
home in The Dalles.
The first film last Sunday
showed a patient at the Salem
mental hospital renacting her
experiences there.

ifornia highways are being
made with plastics so strong
they hold even when the con
crete itself breaks.
Bailey Tremper, supervising
materials and research engi
neer for the California Divi
sion of Highways, told the
American Concrete Institute's
meeting here that epoxy res
ins form "strong, chemically
resistant structures having
remarkable adhesive proper
ties." A recent product of
chemistry, the resins have
long, crosslinked molecules
that provide great strength.
Tremper said his division,
as far as is known, first dis
covered "that epoxy adhesives
will form a strong, durable
bond between fresh plastic
concrete and old, hardened
concrete."
Holes Coated
In one application, holes are
coated with the resins and
fresh concrete poured in. The
repair thus made is strong and
more economical tnan tne
resins used for the whole fill
ing job.
Tremper said California in
stallations have proved the
durability of the resins in
areas oi miia weatner. umy
recently have they been tried
in locations wnere winter
temperatures fall below zero.
Tremper said he is "not pre
pared to state at this time
that the typical formulation
yields adequate flexibility for
exposure to cold weather."
Three Injured in
Highway Accident
Three persons were injured,
two seriously, in a one-car ac
cident on Highway 99 near
the Gold Hill junction early
Saturday morning, state police
said.
In Sacred Heart hospital In
fair condition are Ruth Ellen
Yaeger, 23, and Carol Ann
Zimmerman, 20. Both are
from San Francisco, Calif.
Driver of the car, Lloyd Far-
rell Fritts, 24, also of San
Francisco, was treated at the
hospital and released.
The Fritts car was north
bound when it struck a high
way divider, state police said,
and went out of control. The
car skidded, hitting two trees
along the highway.
A station wagon driven by
William McKinley Briggs, 64,
of 1405 South Tolman rd..
Ashland, Saturday morning;
was turning left into Naumes
Eauinment store, 2840 South
Pacific highway, louth of
Medford, when it was struck
in the front and rear by cars
driven by Ralph C. Car-
michael. 45, of 103 Jeanette
st., Medford, and Arthur Theo
dore Jensen, 54, of Tacoma,
Wash., police said.

to the state hospital for ob
servation for 30 days.
Grondahl admitted to police
he shot and wounded bis fa
ther, Oregonian music critic,
Hilmer Grondahl, and his
mother, March 17 at their
home.
The youth Is charged with
assault with intent to kill. The
court will consider the ques
tion of a trial on the charge
after the period of examina
tion at the hospital.
